Kelsey Grammer to Run for Office?

LAST UPDATE: 4/25/2006 12:45:06 PM

Actor Kelsey Grammer has decided to follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and run for public office.

The star and long-term Republican insists his willingness to discuss his troubled past - which includes alcohol and cocaine addictions - will disarm his opponents.

He says, "It's a notion I have about the future - to run for office, to do the world some good.

"Well the idea that we can do the world some good is a little nuts, the world tends to take care of itself.

"My frankness and openness about my past could probably benefit me though."

Dear Alter Kaker,

It sounds like a lot of difficult stuff came his way early in life, and he didn't do that well with it.

I'm not sure I'd have done much better if I had a father and a sibling murdered, and then two more siblings dead all before I was 25.

Given all that, he managed to turn his life around.

I'll judge him on the issues, but I can readily look beyond his past.

One more point:

After watching President Bush fumble the English language for the 5 years, I'm more convinced than ever that being a solid public speaker is a prerequisite to be influential public office holder. Perhaps the Presidents biggest failing is his inability to coherently relay his message and has been the cause of considerable stress and dissent.

Though I'm still unclear on his stance on any issues, Mr. Grammer does claim to be a Republican, and I believe him to be highly intelligent. I think he could mount a solid challenge against Sen. Boxer in California and I think he should be seriously considered. His ugly past could be considered a strength since he is quite open about the road he's been down. I think it gives him more credibility.

What does he know about the US Constitution? The California state constitution? Does he know how the government is set up to work, or is he one of those "reinventing government" types that wants to set up regional soviets and government by bureaucracy like Arnold is trying to do?

True. We don't know the answer to those questions yet. Wait and see. Hopefully if he's serious he'll hit the airwaves so we can make that assessment. All I'm saying is not to dismiss him at this time.

Good afternoon.
"Grammer has been married three times...Grammer says he constantly has supernatural experiences."

Sounds like Senatorial materiel to me.

He'll probably be ripped apart by the ivory tower snipers for being a "RINO" before he gets a chance to open his mouth.

If he is pro-life, anti-homo marriage and anti-illegal alien, he has my support and my money. Otherwise he pretty much would be a Rinocrat.

“I am Luke Skywalker, and my opponents are members of the Empire. Together we will form the rebellion and defeat Darth Vadar”. He yelled this - first pumping - his voice full of anger - his face - beet red - and his eyes - well - they were scary.

Ah, but the strawberries! That's, that's where he had you!

I'm confused. Wasn't he caught with and under-age girl once? Or something like that? Seems I got real turned off when I heard what had happened. Don't think I could vote for him after that.

Good afternoon.
"Frazier for Senate?"

Who for what?

I've learned to always be skeptical of people who want power over me but I would vote for Kelsey Grammer at the moment, knowing what I currently know about him. Of course I voted for HW Bush, twice, so what how knowledgeable can I be.

He's been accused of raping his 15 year old baby sitter --- since when do Republicans nominate Clintons?

The DA didn't even bring charges, and they bring charges on pretty flimsy evidence quite often. But an unproven accusation is enough to disqualify him in your mind. Tells me more about your sense of judgement than his qualifications for office.

No kidding. Gee, have any of the stone throwers considered that it is possible that a wealthy actor could be the target of unfounded accusations in a quest for monetary gain on behalf of the purported victim? Nope, in our society, accusation is enough.

This is why my husband NEVER takes the babysitter home.
