Iran has purchased ground-to-ground missiles from North Korea with a range of 2,500 kilometers, the head of the Israel Defense Forces Intelligence Branch, Major General Amos Yadlin, said Wednesday.
While Iran already possessed missiles capable of reaching Israel, the new weapons pose a threat for countries in Europe and parts of the Middle East that have now come into Iranian range. Some of the missiles have already arrived in Iran.
The missiles are known in the West as BM-25s, operate on liquid fuel and are single-stage. The BM-25 was originally manufactured in the Soviet Union, where the first generation, adapted for use by Soviet submarines and able to carry a nuclear warhead, was known as the SSN6. After the Russians retired the missiles from service, they sold them to the North Koreans, who developed them to carry a heavier payload.
With this purchase the Iranians have leap-frogged over their Shihab-4 missile with its range of 2,000 kilometers.

I see visions of Euroweenies hoping the evil Bush will step forward and save them...and they of course will show their gratitude by protesting against him. They will repay their savior America by once again pissing all over the nation which makes it safe for them to be socialists.
Is Europe worth saving?
Where did you ever get that idea? /sarc
Unfortunately, perhaps so.
Easy to see what's wrong with that. They can't hit Paris.
This is very disconcerting as there are large American military bases in Europe. We live in Germany.
This guy is a wacko and needs to be taken out BEFORE he does something stupid.
Who is up to the task?
Ahmadinejad and the mullahs of Iran understand that the oil they sit on is crucial to world economics and to the survival of the industrial giants. So far all President Bush has done about all this is to throw his weight behind hybrid cars and stop storage of government petro reserves. I think that if Bush were to make a nationally televised speech and declare that producing oil from Alaska is essential to the survival of America as we know it, the American people would respond by forcing their Congressmen and Senators to allow the drilling. Look how Congress is presently reacting to public outcry over gas gouging.
Yes, these spineless weasles in Washington will respond to public pressure when the people unite and make enough noise about it. They need us more than we need them. Without an electorate many of them would have to work for a living, or worse yet, lose hold of the power that is so dear to their little hearts.... and that prospect is a great motivating factor for politicians. But so far all the President has done regarding Alaska is make a few token requests from Congress, just to cover his behind. But then again, his lifestyle will never change one iota, even if gas should go to fifty dollars a gallon.
Anyway, since Russia is largely the source of Iran's military/nuclear buildup, here's hoping and praying that this whole thing comes back to haunt Russia, big time. Once Iran gets their nukes and feels they have become a world military and economic power, Russia will find that Iran is no friend or ally. It seems that nobody, not even the Russians who bore the brunt of Hitler's nazi juggernaut, have learned anything from history. Assisting a certified madman, seething with hatred and vengeance, in the building of a powerful military machine is never a good idea. Especially for a neighbor.

Did you see the FR post this past week in which a high level Saudi official hinted that they would not be terribly upset if the Israelis did something about the problem. This running in an Israeli paper sounds like they are building the case.
If I was north korea, I would sell them a bottle rocket or a whole bunch of aluminum cans welded together and ask for a couple billion.
Sorry, Irannies... we keep missile... but we'll give them to you soon enough. Just look for the big light and they'll be there.
God has said that He will punish Iran in the Bible. The prophecy in Jeremiah 49:34-38 has never been fulfilled yet. Note that Elam was incorporated into Persia in Jeremiah's times, which of course became Iran.
Pinging...
India should also know about this. I'm sure that the Indian military already does. Military intelligence in other countries will also very likely confirm it soon enough.
It is most wise to overestimate your enemies. They may also use strikes on Europe as blackmail or payback for bombing them. They obviously cannot put nuke warheads in these missiles yet, but they currently have very advanced Chemical and Biological WMD capabilities.
Move the center of the ring up to the north end of Iran, then expand the 1500 km ring to 2500 km.
Majority Indian opinion is on the side of the Americans. I expect that if a war does come to pass in Iran, India will publicly "protest" or "remain silent" but will definitely send in peace-keeping forces if the US requires it. I hope that the Indians will repay American nuclear co-operation in a geo-political area. This should be the first of the reciprocative overtures.
China and Russia will largely stay out of it. But lets hope we (India) will get our share of the oil and gas in Iran. Besides, if Iran falls to allied forces. Pakistan's importance as an ally in the war against terror will dimnish further. And this will further Indo-American ties.
I can relate. I live in Iraq and we've been in range all along. And there are large American bases here. And Ahmedinejad's thugs have mentioned that specifically.
Yawn, Europe. Didn't they already surrender?
Did they, which European country was that, when, who signed the surrender papers.
LOL I know your reply was just one of those joke throwaway remarks.
Yup, the way I figure, more Americans are concerned about it than Europeans are.
