The Satmar religious community was on the brink of civil war yesterday as two sons of the late Grand Rebbe Moses Teitelbaum staked claim to the spiritual leadership of the sect.
The dispute was headed for a showdown at sundown tomorrow when followers of both brothers plan to flock to Brooklyn to celebrate the Sabbath in the streets of Williamsburg.
Aron Teitelbaum, eldest son of the grand rebbe, claimed to have support of 75% of the 120,000 Satmar followers, including sect leaders from Israel, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
"A ceremony proclaiming Rabbi Aron Teitelbaum's appointment will be held in the coming weeks in Williamsburg, Brooklyn," said a statement from Aron Teitelbaum's congregation in Kiryas Joel, Orange County.
Aron Teitelbaum, 57, has vowed to move his official residence to Williamsburg, where his brother, Zalmen, is head of the local Satmar congregation.
But on Tuesday, a rabbinical court deemed Zalmen the new grand rebbe in accordance with his father's will. Zalmen, appointed by his father to head the Williamsburg flock, accepted the mantle.

This group has an ENTIRE NEW YORK TOWN of KIRYAS JOEL of 19,000!!!!!! Can anyone imagine an entire town of any other religion be ALLOWED???? I don't get this.

Today, millions of Jews don't follow the Torah and live like "the nations of the world" instead of being a "light to the nations."

If you read the Old Testament, you'll find the Jews always suffered when they placed their fate into the hands of Gentiles.

The PBS DOCUMENTARY "HASIDIM IN AMERICA" (found at the PBS web site) showed that under Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society," the Hasidim were designated a "disadvantaged minority."
This designation aloowed Hasidim to became beneficiaries of federal community development funds. Federal and city assistance received over the years include CETA (Comprehensive Employment Training Act) monies, Section 8 housing assistance, school meal funds, Headstart, HUD grants and low interest loans.
In 1984, PBS reported, federal aid to Hasidim was expanded when the federal government included the Hasidim in a priority group of six disadvantaged minorities recognized by all federal agencies.
Also American Jews did not rally their government to stop the Holocaust.
I have NEVER heard of a Religious group FIST FIGHTING and BURNING homes and cars to gain power!! This is so foreign to me.

Study European history. There were these two groups of Christens, what were they called, oh yeah, Protestants, Catholics, who sometimes didn't get along. Do they get along in Ireland yet? Any fist fighting or tire burnings reported?
