Senate Republicans proposed a $100 rebate check for millions of taxpayers Thursday to counter high gasoline costs, but linked the assistance to drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge, assuring the measure would face stiff opposition from most Democrats.

Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee called the proposal "a bold package that will give consumers some relief" from gasoline prices that have passed $3 a gallon in many parts of the country.

"We are going to ease the burden," added Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., at a GOP news conference unveiling the measures. Frist said he hoped for a Senate vote next Tuesday.

We also have many good Conservatives in the House.

Ron Paul? er, ah, hmmm, guess that's about it.

The rest are dancing to the pork barrelled polka.

And no, not ONE true conservative in the Senate. 45 barking leftists, 19 or 20 liberals and 35 or 36 left leaning moderates.

I THOUGHT Lindsay Graham *might* turn out to be right of center. BOY! How wrong that was.

I remember when the feds decided to give us the child tax credit early -- so they sent everybody a LETTER telling us they were going to send us a CHECK.

I disagree that there are no conservatives in the Senate. You, IMHO, are wrong! I do not disagree with your sentiment referencing "some".

Yup....if we ever get back to just "Coining the Money", "Protecting the Shores" and "Maintaining Foreign Embassies" as the Constitution authorizes....it will be a Great Day!

Imagine....no more worrying about Spotted owls, Text books, Soy bean acreage, National Parks, capacity of Toilet flushes, ATF abuses, Big Labor, Energy production controls, Airline, Rail and Trucking industry subsidies, Mandated Medical procedures, Homeland insecurity, Housing controls, and Veteran's subsidies. All of these Departments added with no Constitutional requirements.

Every few centuries a "Ronald Reagan" comes into mankind's endeavors....so I don't hold out much hope for anything soon.

"Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee called the proposal "a bold package that will give consumers politicians some relief votes from stupid people"..."

Fixed that for him. :)

I agree the proposed 'rebate' is a sick, socialist approach to this issue ... the democraps actually have the right idea and Pubbies ought to raise the 60 day offer to 180 days and make the bastards vote on it. BUT I strongly disagree that there is little difference in Pubbies and democraps .. it will be easier to change the in-power Republicans behavior than to even get democraps' attention once they get back into power and go with a vengence and even fascist zeal for the socialist societal engineered nation they believe is best for you and me. The democrat bastards are just too dangerous to ever allow them back in power.

I'll grant you there might be some former conservatives who are now bought and paid for (and if they are not their staff is AND STAFF WRITE THE LAWS just take a look at the copywrite issue and fair use - bought and paid for) . . . it takes an extraordinary man to resist the temptation after maybe a term. And since, by and large, they stay until they die. You get the (sad) picture.

Maybe there is an exception but I can't name him off the top of my head. sigh

Nonsense. Shades of George McGovern's laughable rebate plan. The GOP is so panicked, they're willing to out-bid the Democrats at their own game of getting the government to make the situation even worse. Hey, its just an election year, folks!

"Republican is now synonymous with Moron. This is a "bold" package? How about standing up to enviro-twits and opening up offshore and ANWR drilling, permitting new refineries and power plants, reducing boutique blends of gas, cutting fuel taxes and opening up other federal lands for exploration? Where's the supply-side of the solution? Instead these freaking idiots propose we tax ourselves to redistribute a measly $100 check to the have-nots.
Increasingly, there isn't a shred of difference between Rep and Dem."
