Our friend probably believes these clowns can put together a Ferrari in their garage and have it go 180 mph.

"Three words...Abdul Qadeer Khan."

A rare genius. A one man show.

...who sold some things to Iran and Libya and North Korea (none of whom have demonstrated a single working nuke), but not to Al Qaeda.

Even if you believe that Iran or North Korea would give working nukes to Al Qaeda...one must first have such weapons in order to give them away.

You do realize that we are boarding every North Korean ship, yes?! You do realize that we are monitoring for a nuclear test, yes?! You do realize that we are engaging Iran this very moment in order to short-circuit their attempt at acquiring this technology, yes?!

And stopping this problem at the state level negates any chance that Al Qaeda would have at obtaining such weapons.

it well would be I'm sure. But the lone difference between them and us is this.

They have no regard for human life. Neither theirs nor ours.

You said -- "These loons have as much chance of getting ahold of a Nuclear submarine as they do an A bomb."

I'm not so sure of that. I think there could be many ways.

Let's say that Pakistan loses its leader, and abandons its relationship with the U.S. and the mullahs over there take over the running of that country. And let's say that they decide to help al-Qaida get a bomb. They've got them already. It fooled us apparently, for a while. They've got them now.

Or, I also hear that there's some radical Islamic country who is willing to give away nuclear bombs to other Islamic countries, once they get theirs built.

As I see it, there are countless ways to get those bombs into terrorist hands. I didn't mention North Korea as a possibility. I've also heard (just rumors) that Saudi Arabia has some nuclear weapons. Whether that's true or not, I just don't know. But, it's possible.

If you've got the money, you can buy all the materials and details you need to get it done...

"In time they would have. I understand that there was some misinformation fed to them. It was simply a "matter of time" -- that's all. Details *always* work themselves out sooner or later."

Germany doesn't have nukes to this very day. How much time do they need?

The Soviets still haven't put a man on the Moon. How much time do they need?

Over-simplifying technical hurdles is the stuff of Hollywood movies and cheap, harlot newsmen.

Details matter. They do not always work themselves out.

"Still, my point was that they could've had the computer skills within 10 years easily. They still had Heisenberg and others."

They had Heisenberg for years **after** the war. They still haven't made a nuke 60 years later.

Beside that fact, it was **Heisenberg** who botched the math.

When I lived in Oklahoma City during the late 80's and early 90's lots of people had misgivings about the number of radical Muslims that seemed to be concentrating at the local Mosque.

Many of us still believe that the local Muslims had a hand in the Oklahoma City bombing.

I talked with one lady who's sister was married to one of the agents killed in the bombing.

She was always saying that the "FBI was ordered to cover up the participation of the local Muslims by the Clinton administration".

If Hillary Clinton is elected this is the same kind of thinking and cover up we can expect should this happen again on American soil.

Space aliens could fly down and give them away too. And that is only slightly more far fetched than your worries.

We need to concern ourselves with the PRACTICAL problems we face not wild, paranoic pipe dreams.

BTW your take on Islam ignores the tremendous number of Islamics who are fighting and dying alongside our soldiers.
It would however make enemies of them ALL even when there is no need to do so.

Nor is such a simplistic approach likely to be successful since Islam has been around for almost 1400 years and always grew through the sword. Death is more attractive than Life for many of the truly lunatic. However the vast majority are not willing to die because some erzatz holy man says they should.

You said -- "Nonsense. The Soviets decided to put men onto the Moon. They failed. Details matter."

You forget their "objective". It was to be *first*. Once they failed in *that objective* -- they changed their decision. If they had a different objective -- like simply getting a man on the moon and not being first -- they would have succeeded. It was simply a "matter of time" and their decision. That's all.

Now, in regards to al-Qaida -- they don't have any "false decision" about "being first" -- and thus deciding to quit when they don't succeed. They have made the decision to fight the U.S., to defeat the U.S. (as it's part of their religion). It's not something that will change -- unless you eliminate the religion of Islam. That's why I advocate totally and thoroughly destroying the religion of Islam.

And so -- with them it's simply "make a decision and buy the details". They've got all the time in the world. They're patient and they can wait.

We can be successful in defending our borders and country from that kind of intrusion for 999 times. But, the *first time* we fail (even after 999 successes) -- "we lose". They've won.

And likewise, with them -- they can fail 999 times. And if they succeed *once* -- they've won exactly what they wanted.

There's you "math" for the equation....

A one man show.

It only takes *one*.

You do realize that we are boarding every North Korean ship, yes?!

Once again, only *one* needs to get past them and we'll be in a world of hurt.

Ahhh..., now I get it... You're telling me that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a space alien. Now it all makes sense... :-)

The problem with the world today is that there are a lot of "space aliens" running around -- in case you haven't noticed. One such group goes by the name of al-Qaida. Another such group has the name Hamas. And then another one runs a country under the name of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. So, we've got a lot of space aliens to worry about -- I would say.

In that case, I'll be watching those space aliens...

It is possible we have underestimated them. They may indeed have nukes but have not used them so far because they know that will be the last time they ever use them.

That being said perhaps Iran is pulling the strings.. maybe Iran is the one that has the bomb and they will deliver it through terrorists if it's their last gasp.

You said -- "Germany doesn't have nukes to this very day. How much time do they need?"

They're not trying to build one. And they were prevented from having any before. I don't get the Germany thing. That was "decision" not "detail".

Also, you said -- "The Soviets still haven't put a man on the Moon. How much time do they need?"

Again, another "decision" matter. The details would have surely followed -- because "man is man". American man is not different than Soviet man. Decision then details...

And also -- "Over-simplifying technical hurdles is the stuff of Hollywood movies and cheap, harlot newsmen. Details matter. They do not always work themselves out."

I never said that details *didn't matter*. What I said is that *details will follow decision*. It will *always* come sooner or later. "Man is man." What one man in one place in the world can "work out" -- so can another. We are not composed of superior and inferior races. We are all the same. We will all work out the details -- sooner or later.

Again -- Decisions are made; details are bought (or maybe stolen, even).

That may be the case if they were all suicidial.

Perhaps they use their pawns for suicide but the leadership is far more cautious.

If a nuke went off the game would be over.. The US will be harvesting Middle east oil in radiation suits... and all for the cost of one of our cities.

Jayna Davis has a lot to say in her book. I've read some information about it on web sites and heard interviews by her. I'll have to get her book and find out why Jim Woolsey (of CIA fame) backs her like he does...

It's poor math. If caught with even 1 nuke, Al Qaeda would face vast new challenges. Losing 999 would doom them; actually, they'd be doomed far earlier, and are probably already doomed due to our global successes in the war on terror.

Al Qaeda's idea of high tech is a box cutter on someone else's jumbo jet. Clean labs and nuclear construction/maintenance are vastly out of their hands.

Nor is North Korea going to risk 999 nukes to get one to a U.S. port. Nor will Iran. Iran is building long range missiles because they want a higher hit ratio than that; they already know that we are detecting and stopping anything even close to a nuclear component.

The 4 Libyan ships that we caught with centrifuges, for instance, were detected from the **traces** of radiation left from their prior legitimate enrichment usage.

Even washed, they weren't clean enough nor shielded by the ships' hulls enough to escape our detection.
