I wonder just how official I could get away with making it look without being charged with impersonating a Federal officer.

You know what? We're worried about breaking the law with an official-looking note while the government isn't defending us against this act of war?

On Monday, we also need to call elected officials and DEMAND that everyone at those rallies be rounded up and sent home. Revoke any green cards of those there, take away government subsidies, play tough. Otherwise, we don't have a government....we have elected enablers of the invasion.

"it's about time I got a decent TV and a DVD player, and a back up bicycle, and some CDs, and some books to read this summer, and a nice meal,......."

Isn't it fun to spend money?!

Now, when you get home and sadly discover what you bought doesn't suit you, remember that you can always return it the next day or so...:)

Here's a FReeper who thinks 1/2 his staff will be out Monday - are you going to boycott his business too:

if they present what looks to be valid documents, how exactly is an employer supposed to know they are illegals?
He can check the SS# to see if it's valid. Illegals do NOT have valid Social Security Numbers.""

You might want to clarify your statement.

Illegals do often have a number that is present in the social security system.
The problem is: It is someone else's number.
Alot of current identity theft cases are hinging on the bad numbers these people are working under. There are often numerous people from just one area of the country using one number.
The most correct method of checking would have to include at least:
Full name
Date of birth-confirmed by birth certificate original.
Gender
Social Sec Number attempted to be used, matched to the area of birth. Soc Security numbers are assigned by the area of your birth. Lower numbers in the North east, working west across the country to the higher numbers.EI: Person born in Utah or Nevada would NOT have a number that starts: "029-xx-xxxx, etc.
Evidence at Soc Sec that this person has filed a prior tax return if over 16 years old

There are other cross references, but I feel these would be the minimum. If my credit card purchases can be verified in a matter of seconds anywhere in the world, I don't understand why this kind of info cannot be verified within 24 hours for an employer. Total mystery to me.

Some businesses don't have a choice but to close if most (or no) workers show up. I think an automatic, knee-jerk reaction that said business owners condone the boycott would not be wise.""

If I owned a small business staffed by LEGAL immigrants, that wanted to "skip work" and march, I think I would spend all of Monday while I was closed filing papers for a brand new name and entity, and closing my current establishment by day's end. Then these marchers have NO job to come back to. I didn't fire you: I closed the business because I had no staff........

I had the same immediate reaction. But then I thought, why not go to a Mexican restaurant that opens? Now, that would send the right message.

You might want to ping the person who wrote what you are disagreeing with. If the employer does everything required ubder the law (verifying someone's SS# is not required), how can you possibly fault them?

Why isn't he going to be open if half his staff is going to be there ?? He should fire the half that doesn't show up and hire others.

To: ridesthemiles

You missed the easiest.

SS can tell you whether the SS# is already in use at another employer. Ask the potential employee to explain how he'll hold both jobs and talk to the other employer.

Many people do hold two jobs, but an employer has the right to know about the other job so they can determine whether the employee will have limitations on shifts.

An illegal probably will not even know about the other job and certainly won't be able to provide the contact information.
