Replica gun gets student in trouble
A 15-year-old girl was detained by Simi Valley police for allegedly taking a toy replica gun to Simi Valley High School on April 20.
Simi Valley Police School Resource Officer Arnold Baynard received information from a Ventura County sheriff's deputy that the student was in possession of a firearm on the campus. The deputy had received the information from a student in another city.
The girl was found and detained at school. Baynard took an Airsoft pistol out of the student's pocket.
The toy pistol was a replica of a Glock model 26 9-mm pistol. The toy uses compressed air to shoot small plastic BB-sized pellets. The toy is nearly identical to the real thing and looks and feels like a firearm.
There was no evidence that the student intended to use the pistol to commit a crime or to threaten or hurt anyone. The toy gun was not loaded.
The girl was cited and released. She will be dealt with in the Juvenile Court system on a criminal charge. The Simi Valley School District will address whether the girl can continue to attend school.
I had one of those M16s.
Drove my mom NUTS!!!!
So let me see if I get this right. The government will not arrest illegal aliens in this country or go after alien drug dealers but will go after a young girl with a toy gun? To I guess some crime enforcement is more equal than others.
Sounds like a bad remake of Animal Farm.
The toy gun was not loaded.
God forbid! There would have been some heavy swat action!
Infuriating, isn't it?
I wish I could figure out how to put this image in my reply. I had one of these back in 1967(?). It was great!
I had one too (Army brat here) and I loved that thing! We would play war in the woods, Ft. Benning, sometimes find live ammo.
Wouldn't work in my `16' though.. dam!
I see they fail to mention that airsoft guns are colored red on the ends of the muzzle in order to redily distinquish them from real firearms. Just another day of suppressing school children and to hell with real law enforcement work!
The cops recently arrested 2 high-school kids for the "crime" of walking down the street carrying air-soft guns. The front page of the paper was emblazoned with a color photo of some cop holding a fake MP-5, and a long, hysterical quote from the police chief about what a menace these toys are. If I was a cop, I don't think I would want the public to know I was scared of toys, and I sure as hell wouldn't want my picture in the paper holding a toy gun that scared me.
My little brother had one of those. I kinda wished I had one when I was his age. It looked like alot of fun.
They made a great tommy gun that worked on the same principle. I wore out 2 of them over 40 years ago.
A 269-mm pistol? Now that's a pistol
When toys are outlawed, only outlaws will have toys.
oh, for f[beep!]'s sake, it's a damned AIRSOFT fer cryin' out loud!
I have an Airsoft 1911, but I carry the real one.
If it had been a boy he'd be expelled and looking at prison.
Bringing a toy gun to school is a crime. A breach of the school rules, possibly, but what would the crime be, assuming she didn't threaten anyone with it, or otherwise misuse it?
