A day in the life of President Bush (4/30/06): photos of correspondents dinner

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's Church this morning, as is their custom when spending the weekend at the White House. Last night they attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the President and his "alter ego," comedian Steve Bridges, stole the show.

The best review I found is on USA Today's website. Since I'm not sure how much of their material we can excerpt, I'll just provide a link. The article includes a nearly complete transcript of the President's and Mrs. Bridges routine.

I missed most of Colbert's act last night except for the "press secretary" video. That was just embarrissingly lame.

I didn't realize until today how nasty his "jokes" were before that.

Colbert probably thinks he was hysterical.

Was Scalia actually there to witness that?

Yep.

I sure do hope that Fred Thompson's wife didn't have to bend over to pick anything up....wearing that dress...

Colbert probably thinks he was hysterical.

Yeah. Hysterical. Of course, there's more than one definition and use of that word. I think he was hysterical in the other sense.

It's ugly and trashy, isn't. Just goes to show having money and having class are not the same thing.

Sometimes when Bridges is a guest on a TV program I am not sure at first if he's Dubya or not. It takes a while to be sure. But then he does that laugh at the wrong moment and I know!!!!

I remember when Papa Bush invited Dana Garvey (?)to the White House and the guy said he was so scared at first but Papa Bush could not have been nicer to him.

Class is inborn and the Bush's all have it!

"The White House Correspondents' Association Dinner was televised on C-Span Saturday evening. Featured entertainer Stephen Colbert delivered a biting rebuke of George W. Bush and the lily-livered press corps. He did it to Bush's face, unflinching and unbowed by the audience's muted, humorless response."

I read the USA Today review...and I think they were WAY too kind to Colbert...and seemed to go out of their way to find someone to compliment him...seemed to be the other "actors", rather than any politicians or some media.

I was reading a financial advice column in the paper the other day and it was stated that at the present time......the person pays 45% of any money inherited over $2 million dollars.

That has got to end. It punishes people who have worked their hearts out in businesses or made sacrifices to build an estate.....it does not belong to the feds.

I sure do. Last night while waiting for the dinner to get started, C-SPAN showed a brief clip of Carvey at the WH during 41's term.

LOL! Even the Huffingtonpost can't deny that.

Not surprising, really. What I liked about the USA Today review was the nearly complete transcript of GWB and his alter ego.
