"The question you have to think about honestly is if a nondespot could have governed that country and brought about modernization at that time?"

Why? That's just more idle speculation. I will say this though, I have no problem with the US using the shah as our puppet to rule over a country that we needed as a buffer against the soviets. If the iranians let themselves be used this way that's on them.

"And whether it is possible for Iran even now or Iraq even now to have a democratic government and nondespot ruler without Pax Americana."

They seem to be a few generations away from possessing the sophistication required of a representative republic, which is what passes for democracy these days. Even those iranians living here in safety and comfort show they don't get it when they tout a reza dynasty and bandy about terms like royalty and majesty.

Why do you have such a long standing phobia about royalty and Majesty? Does this make you feel less significant or did you have former dynasty Qajar friends who might share your point of view about the Pahlavis and you are letting it show?

There has to be some reason - you fail to explain - for your vituperative comments. Incidentally, I can still discover no basis for you to claim any knowledge of Iran, though you pontificate as if you were an expert.

I provably am an expert, show how you are - other than in your own head.
