Dean: Republicans Owe The American People Leadership On Immigration

May 2, 2006

Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement as millions prepared to march peacefully around the country for comprehensive immigration reform:

"No matter where you stand on today's peaceful rallies, the core issue remains. America needs comprehensive immigration reform that will strengthen our borders, protect U.S. workers and their wages, and allow hard working immigrants who pay taxes and obey the law the opportunity to apply for the responsibilities of U.S. citizenship.

"While parents should keep their children in school, the fact that thousands more people will rally today for comprehensive immigration reform throughout the country continues to put a human face on this important issue. Immigrants, legal or otherwise, are human beings, in search of a better future for themselves and their children.

"It is immoral to continue to have millions of people living in the shadows in America, subject to exploitation, not afforded basic human and civil rights, and possibly depressing wages for U.S. workers. Two thirds of Americans understand that, support comprehensive immigration reform, and oppose the Republican plan to criminalize immigrants, families, doctors, and even clergy.

"Democrats will continue to fight for a comprehensive immigration reform bill that is both tough and smart. But Republicans owe the American people real leadership, and have to stand up to the extremist anti-immigrant views in their own Party. President Bush needs to publicly support the comprehensive immigration reform bill the American people want if it is to pass. And Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has to give it a fair chance in the Senate. The President's lack of leadership has not only failed to protect our borders, it has led to the hostility embodied in the House Republicans' bill. Standing on the sidelines won't change that.

"Together, America can do better."

All of these exist but the government refuses to act for the will of the people and enforce its laws. Yesterday, had nothing to do with immigrants - it all had to do with bringing down America.

Headline is 100% correct.

(The rest is Dean's typically inane claptrap.)

And Governor Dean, don't forget that a really good piece of immigration legislation also will give all Americans fast, fast, fast relief from headache pain!

Hope this moron never loses his gig at the DNC. What a putz.

Translation: "We Democrats don't quite know what policies are politically safe to advocate yet, but whatever the public or the immigrants want, it's Bush's fault they don't have it."

I actually agree with Howierd on the above point as well, which reminds to check for pigs flying about on the way home. That said, I do differ on the solution, I think those being exploited should go home.

Granting all these unskilled laborers amnesty is effectively the permanent creation of a second class of citizen. It is 21st century slavery when you get down to it.

"Republicans owe the American people real leadership..."

Deans get that one little bit absolutely right.

"President Bush needs to publicly support the comprehensive immigration reform bill the American people greedy vote hungry politicians want if it is to pass."

What the American people want is to seal the border, enforce our laws, prosecute employers who hire illegals and deport illegal Mexicans, Guatelmalans, etc. If they want to come here to work, they need to apply legally, the way everyone else had to. There, fixed it.

I agree. The Republicans would show leadership if they passed a bill which would try to deport as many illegals as possible, as quickly as possible.

Hmnmmmm.,.........notice how the left has played the word game again.....

Illegal aliens , then illegal entrants, then undocumented workers, then just plain immigrants. Now the "immigrants" deserve rights. What happened to them breaking our laws by coming here, and falsifying every document they have? The illegal part is now missing!

They did the same with all the other issues, too. Abortion is the brutal and torturous dismemberment of a human infant from it's mothers womb while it's still alive and fighting for it's life without as little as an aspirin to dull the pain. They refer to it as "A beautiful choice."

Oppressive taxation to support a lazy, do nothing democrat base is referred to as "Aid for the poor."

Two grown men lusting after each other anus is "Gay" and a "Civil right."

The theft of private property worked for, paid for, and in families for generations is referred to as "Environmentalism for the sake of the children."

When you remove the pretty face the liberals have put on their abominations, you'll find every unclean bird of the earth living under it. You'll find the ugliest images ever known to man - and worse.

The Republicans are, outside of my hero Tom Tancredo, doing absolutely nothing about securing our borders from the invading Mexican COLONISTS. Argue all you want, people, Howard Dean is pissing you off because he's right on this one. Granted, the Dems won't do anything either.
