Herndon (VA) Day Labor Site May Have Influenced Elections

HERNDON, Va. (AP) - The day labor site in Herndon may have changed the face of politics in that town.

Steve DeBenedittis, a resident who opposed the center, has been elected mayor of Herndon, defeating incumbent Michael O'Reilly.

DeBenedittis captured one-thousand, three-hundred and sixty-three votes, 130 more than O'Reilly.

The center opened late last year, replacing a chaotic unofficial site in a 7-Eleven parking lot as a spot for employers to recruit day laborers.

There was also turnover on the Herndon town council, as only two -- Dennis Husch and Harlon Reece -- were re-elected.

Connie Hutchinson, Dave Kirby, Bill Tirrell and Charlie Waddell have been newly elected to the council.

The mayor and town council take office on July first.

Were the winners democrat or republican. One would have to assume that the winners were republican since it wasn't mentioned

Party affiliation is irrelevant in this case.

What IS relevant is that the losers were supporters of illegal immigrants, while the winners were for enforcing the law.

What is also relevant is that turnout was MUCH higher than expected.

This was a very meaningful election, with a very clear result. Any elected politician with an ounce of savvy should realize which way the wind is blowing.

This is a lesson for America.

The people of this Virginia town stood up and showed that you can fight this wave of illegal aliens if you have the will.

All of the big media, the Chamber of Commerce, and ruling politicians of both parties supported the now-deposed mayor and the town council incumbents in their misguided and arrogant attempt to make Herndon another sanctuary city. They painted the challengers and their supporters as racist, hate-mongering xenophopes. Big money from developers and contractors and the service industries and pro-illegal groups like LULAC and La Raza contributed big time to keep these incumbents in power. It all backfired, and the common people from both political parties rose up and threw them out.

Herndon was the first election this year to be a referendum on the illegal immigration problem. There is a lesson here for the national parties - you'd better start paying attention to the will of the American majority or you too will be sent packing.

Ironically, it was this little Virginia town of 23,000 that can proudly say: "Si, se puede" (yes we can!)

Herndon town elections are non-partisan. People from both parties rose up to throw the rascals out.

Remove the center now then if you got this voter mandate.

It's insulting this thing was even suggested.

Let me decide what is relevant to me. You sound like a LIBERAL who always knows what is best for everyone. Does anyone know the party affiliation of the winners?

Actually they sound like a Conservative who is directing the RINO's to what the future may hold for those who decide to put pandering over the Constitution and the rule of law.

Dick Morris said that if you give people a wall and give illegals amnesty Americans will agree to it. Dick Morris is a weasel. The whole time he was pandering to Mexicans who he assumes all support illegals. What a racist viewpoint to think all Mexicans will vote republican if illegals are given amnesty. What a slap in the face!

While Herndon town elections are non-partisan, the candidates themselves often self-associate with a political party and seek endorsements from party officials and/or leaders.

For example, the mayor-elect was strongly endorsed by Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), who is well-known as both a fiscal and social conservative (and a nutjob!).

Quite a few of the pro-illegal alien group are racists. Mexico is a racist country where Blacks are looked down on and kept on the lowest ranks of society by racism.

When they talk about jobs Americans won’t do they're talking about jobs even Blacks won’t do. Fox came right out and said it. The racists here dance around it but we know what they mean.
