For all freepers, if you just drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, and eat well, it will greatly help. For example adequate hydration alone cuts Ebola mortality rate in half. When any diseases are going around, even minor ones like the cold, it helps a lot.

Calm down folks. Stiff upper lip now, what? Show some moral fibre.

Nobody died or even caught avian flu in the UK, so less hysteria please.

enhancements and upgrade my array of firearms and related defensive modalities.

Here as well. I keep waiting for the FBI to come tapping on our door asking us what we are up too. I wonder if we've been flagged by them with all our upgrades and additions. lololol

"BTW, at this time, 3m N-100 and masks with vapor filters are very available and not too expensive. Probably a good idea to stash a few away. P-100's are the disposible kind and are very cheap, though only for temporary use."

Thanks. Got'em both. I plan to wear the P's over the N's, lol.

Just for everyone's information when you get around to aking the question, the Bird Flu virus is 0.15 microns or smaller. A regular Caucasian human hair is about 100.0 microns in diameter as a reference.

It's not hysteria. It's preparedness for what ever might come down the pike.

Thnak you. And yea, verily, whether or not an avian flu pandemic comes to pass, the scriptures warn us of other calmities that loom in the future. This immigration problem, for instance, could result in economic catastrophe and civil unrest including but not limited to a race war.

The Lord has promised us that "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear...."

Let's prayer that men and women of good will everywhere will unite to minimize the tragedy and suffering and at the same time to experience the attainable concurrent joy that this life will send our way....

I didn't think of that, thanks.

I'm sitting here laughing at my monitor...I know the feeling. (I've been doing a little at a time not to attract attention, lol) I think the little old lady across the street is on-to-me though.

Planting hedges of hefty thorny bushes inside of your own backtyard fence and in front of your own house shouldn't attract too much attention, especially if they produce beautiful blooms at some time during the year.....

My ex is a genetics researcher (double Ph.D.) with the National Institute of Health. She believes the threat represents a real potential disaster.

Wonderful and practical advice.

I have personally decided to start walking more, and paying attention to my diet.

If bird flu does become a problem, I intend to be useful to my neighbors and friends, and a strong immune system and good health is very strong protection.

What you really need is the 3M N-95 mask as a backup. They don't attract a loy of attention on airliners, either....

For what it's worth, Colloidal Silver is marvelous against ALL kinds of viruses. I used to get violently (and I mean violently) ill with the flu or a very bad cold every December. I hated seeing December come around. Since I've been taking Colloidal silver, I don't even get sniffles.

Caveat: Take it per the bottle's instructions for a while, then cut back to one or two teaspoons a week (I take even less that that). The negative side effect? It can turn your skin permanently blue if you overdose on it. But using it cautiously, as you would ANY mineral or vitamin, is a great thing to do, and it's a good protection against this flu or any other.

Ironically, the NIH remains among the most recalcitrant of Federal agencies with respect to the telecommuting (hint: minimizes unnecessary contact with co-workers in small offices and labs) policy mandated by the Bush administration....

What is the best way to stockpile water? Is having some plastic bottles around (1 gal per person per day) a good idea? Or should we invest a few hundred dollars to get something like a Big Berky filter? Other ideas?

Also, what kinds of foods are good to stockpile? I've been concentrating on canned goods like chicken, tuna, tomatoes, green beans, other beans, soups, etc. Plus crackers, cereal, maybe some beef jerky.

If I stockpiled many pounds of flour and sugar and cornmeal, etc., I'm not sure what I would do with them or cook with them.
