The problem is, without detaining or questioning the driver, the police cannot determine whether or not a felony has taken place. And they cannot detain or question a Congressman who is on his way to a debate or a vote in Congress.

"including being diagnosed with bipolar disorder."

No matter what he did now, he is untouchable.

I hope he gets the help he needs before some innocent person gets killed or injured.

He was stopped for driving too SLOW on a country road. There was no crash involved, but the MSM made sure didn't like mentioning that

He also was polite, submitted to the sobriety test, registered just over the legal limit....surrendered...did not contest the charges and paid the price.

He followed the law....gee, what a concept for a "pampered" son.

I have read reports of people getting up out of bed and sleep-driving under Ambien.

No doubt so has Patrick's lawyer. Hence the new storyline.

Aw, it isn't nearly as imaginative as the "Twinkie defense".

Net result of Patches' latest adventure will be that Ambien (an excellent sleeping medication) will be banned.

The difference between a family with honor, and one with no shame.

Any comparison of the two families as 'dynasties' makes me shudder. They could not be farther apart.

Patrick Kennedy is a coke head. He was very probably stoned when he crashed his car. If I were Cynthia McKenny, I'd start screaming about a double standard here. They go after her--a poor black woman /sarcasm--but let this rich white boy off the hook. That would sure put the squeeze on the swimmer himself who fancies himself a protector of the blacks.

"Just because he descended from scum like the Kennedy's, does not mean he is stinking pond scum."

No, but it helps.

Chris Wallace, who has long known this guy, said on FoxNews that he had a bad childhood with Teddy as a Dad, which probably explains his behavior.

If he runs with this I'll start calling him Zacarias Kennedy.

Ambien has been in the news lately. It is a hypnotic sleeping pill. I had a great deal of trouble with this medication. Thought I was goin' nutz, or had mad cow! I'd wake up in the morning and find the remnants of a large meal, or find things taken out of closets, etc.. I got up one night (sound asleep, mind you) and put a chicken in the oven, then sat down to watch tv (tv was not turned on!) I didn't really awaken until the smoke was all the way to the floor! Stopped taking Ambien, and a few days later read about the problems with this drug. Asked a cop buddy, and he said that more and more traffic stops and accidents are being attributed to Ambien.
All that said, it would make a convienient excuse for drunkeness!

Doesn't Ambien advertise "don't take this medication unless you can devote at least 8 hours to sleep" and something about "don't drive unless you know how the medication will affect you"?

Hey, the Submarine Commander was designated one of the 10 best senators this week by Time magazine. Don't remember all the rest given this designation. But I wouldn't have placed any of them in the top 90.

Patches driving filled with Phrenigan and Ambien will only enhance the reputation of Sub Commander Kennedy.

I wonder if Senator Kennedy had anything to do with the fact that the Capitol Police prevented the DC Police from giving his son a sobriety test. If I were an investigative reporter I'd be hounding the hell out of the Chief of the Capitol Hill Police and Senator Kennedy's office. I'd even pursue a Freedom of Information request for Senator Kennedy's phone records related to the timing of his son's accident.

I'd like to know how many people here reading this now,,,,

if they got pulled over by a cop in the middle of the night (not to mention EVEN GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT),,,

for 'appearing intoxicated',,,,

could expect the police officer to JUST DRIVE YOU HOME,,,,

withOUT a sobriety test?

What's the difference here in paradise, I ask? (And this applies just as well to the current POTUS

Current POTUS was raised in Midland, Texas and served as gubernator of Texas. That's good enough for me.

Like father, like son. Look for Patches to be wearing a neck brace if the first 2 excuses don't work.
