Carter won because he was the Democrat nominee. Seriously. After Watergate, there was no way the GOP nominee, any nominee was going to win. It did not matter that the dimwitted Ford was our guy; Abraham Lincoln himself could not win in 1976.
AMEN!
But then, as the OpEd by Melanie Morgan shows, Carter would continue to play the "let the Islamofacists keep abusing us and we'll just sit back and do nothing" approach.
That man repulses me, and he is a danger to the well-being of our nation.
The sad chapter of the collapse of the Iranian government should never have happened. The Shah had his problems, but he was making progress in westernizing Iran.
If Carter wasn't such a pious do-gooder, he would have help the Shah stay in power and we would never have seen this goofy, but dangerous, government in Iran.
There would have been NO hostage crisis.
If America would have acted strong then, some camel jockey like Osama Bin Laden would have throught twice before trying to take out the World Trade Center.
You would think Carter would want to make amends for his incompetence, but instead he keeps kissing a_ _ of every dictator and anti-American thug there is in the world.
AMEN to everything you said!
It is not incompetence. Carter tried to extort money for his Georgia cronies from the Shah of Iran. When the Shah refused. Carter went out of his way to get him. Carter is a fraud and a scumbag. He is the favorite American amongst America's enemies. That is why he has a Nobel Peace Prize. He sold out his country to earn it.
America hated Jimmy Carter, so Jimmy Carter hates America. A humbler man would have licked his wounds and got on with life, but Jimmy is a neither humble nor Christian.

LMAO...I love Free Republic!!!

If a woman like Lady Margaret Thatcher was a candidate (or Maggie herself was a candidate), I'd vote for her in a minute.
Having trouble finding your link.
"Historians and observers still debate Carters reasons for his actions during his tenure at the White House, where almost everything, including shutting down satellite surveillance over Cuba at an inappropriate time for the US, seemed to benefit Soviet aims and policies. Some claim he was inept and ignorant, others that he was allowing his liberal leanings to overshadow US national interests."
The article regarding demands made on the Shad of Iran by Carter are sickening, and probably very true.
However, I for one believe that Carter was weak minded and fuzzy headed in his thinking that man is inherently good and the the Ayatollah Khomenei being a religious mand would do the right thing.
He, the Ayatollah, basically gave Carter the finger...when
he took over the US embassy.
"I do not understand who this crumb can even be seen in public."
You would think that even a third rate journalist would be able to connect the dots on the how and why we ended up in Iraq twice and now the Iran problem.
"by Carter are sickening, and probably very true".
This account by Alan is first hand. He was there. No "probably" about it.
"That man repulses me, and he is a danger to the well-being of our nation."
This guy Carter, was a thug. I don't think he fit in with the Washington Democrats either. Very sneaky. His whole cabinet was phony. I would love to hear more from Iranian Freepers here that can give us their own accounts.
