But I think that's more because of the breakdown of the family and out of wedlock pregnancies (recall in the past if a woman got pregnant the couple got married- true no longer). Very few women would have fallen for socialism at the turn of the 19th century for instance. They had husbands and families that supported them. In the wake of this vacuum, however, women will turn to the government for assistance. It was government policies which fostered all the above, BTW.
The complicit abdication of men as traditional heads of the family also helped to produce the above. Regarding the development of creeping socialism, men are as culpable as women.
