I think she's called Calypso.

LONDON (Reuters) - A cruise liner with 708 passengers and crew aboard was on fire 20 miles off the southeast town of Eastbourne early on Saturday, Sky TV reported.

The fire was located in the ship's engine room and the vessel's officers had given the order to evacuate the liner, Sky said. The liner was called the Calypso, but its ownership, route and the nationalities of passengers were not immediately known, Sky said.

I hope it is just a small fire, and can be safely ended soon with no deaths.

I happen to agree.

WOW..prayers up for those people...

Surely they have a firefighting department on board, though.

Firefighters = cooks, engineering personnel, rumba instructors, pool attendants, housekipping, etc.

Panamanian registry, I'd wager.....

Do those cruise liners carry enough rafts to evacuate everyone?

Do those cruise liners carry enough rafts to evacuate everyone?

You'd think they would be required to do so.

Yes, they are required to do so by law after the Titanic disaster.

They are also required to have a muster drill at the begining of every cruise. Most people think of it as a big joke. A few don't show, others talk during the briefing, and many are bored and don't pay attention.

The liner was called the Calypso

"Was" doesn't sound good.

the vessel's officers had given the order to evacuate the liner

That sure sounds like the ship is sinking. I sure hope they can get rescue ships there in a hurry.

Yep, you got the concept.

I ALWAYS pay attention to every safety briefing. But then, I teach CPR and First Aid for a living, so I guess that makes me very safety conscious.
