There are many reasons Alan didn't get through the primary. One of them being he never held elective office, which besides giving one great experience, also helps one become known among the voting populace.
Some take that 'lack' as a postive thing.
He never learned how to be a politician in all of its worst connotations. His government and private experience were solid pluses. His knowledge of the issues and history and his ability to articulate principle were unmatched by any career politician.
He's earned my respect and trust. I'll help him anytime that I can.
