The San Francisco Giants' slugger hit a mammoth shot in the sixth inning off Philadelphia right-hander Jon Lieber, sending a 2-1 pitch off the steroid advertisement on the facade of the right-field upper deck during a 9-5 loss to the Phillies.

Maybe it also has something to do with allegations of steroid use by Bonds and baseball's probe into whether he took performance-enhancing drugs. <

Yep, this is all void. He doesn't deserve any ovations for the home runs he cranks.

How many stolen bases did Babe Ruth have? Bonds has 500.

Meanwhile, the Giants are in last place in the division, Moises Alou's hurt, the ERA is the worst in the league, and we're staring a 5 game deficit straight in the face. Strange as it seems, Barry is the tip of the iceberg right now.

As a Giants fan, it sucks to be us most of the time, but it just sucks worse tonight. :(

*Sigh* Go Giants, I guess.

If I were the one to catch the ball that Bonds hits to break the record, I would announce that bidding starts now to see who wants the honor of dropping the ball into a shredder.

What amazes me is if you watch Costas Now this past week with a roundtable of former players...they ALL said including Mike Schmidt that if steroids were popular and around when they played...they would have taken them as well.

All defenders of Barry.

I for one think he probably did roid up...but what he is accomplishing in the last 2-3 years under so much scrutiny...I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and saying he is passing Ruth's record on legit power and talent.

Without steroids he'd chasing Dave Winfield's 465 home runs, at best. What Bond's is doing is dumber than cheating at solitaire; at least with solitaire he'd be the only one who knew. The man is shameless.

Yup. This season, once again, we need only watch one batter the entire lineup, then go do something else for 45 minutes until he comes to the plate again.

In the 1918 World Series vs the Chicago Cubs, Babe Ruth hurled a 6-hit shutout in Game 1. In Game 4, the Cubs scored their first run in the 8th inning to break Ruth's record string of 29 1/3 scoreless innings. Ruth's mark stood until 1961 when Whitey Ford broke it.

Babe was also a pitcher... how many strikeouts does bonds have?

123. His best season he had 17. He was fast in the early years, but obviously nothing like Bonds in that department!

Ruth was one of the very best left-handed pitchers in baseball at the time - when pitchers dominated the game. He still has one of the best winning percentages all time.

In my opinion, Ruth was the greatest all-around player in the game’s history. No one else has mastered the games two most important skills: hitting and pitching.

Note that Bonds was an excellent fielder in earlier years, as he often turned opponents doubles into singles.

Oh yeah, and Ruth was 94 - 46 as a pitcher (his .671 winning % is 12th on the all-time list).

...and his lifetime ERA is 2.27 (15th all-time).

Bonds was a better base stealer, you say? lol....ok, we'll give the pathetic junkie that stat.

The question in 16 was how many black/Latin pitchers Ruth faced, and the answer is zero. Bonds has faced many. It’s 506 steals.

So? Babe Ruth was on the juice and Barry Bonds was juiced?

I'm not sure if you can compare the two players. I mean really, how many candy bars named after Barry Bonds have been sold? Oh, the Baby Ruth candy bar was not named after Babe Ruth the baseball player even though most people think it was? Sorry, well, as P.T. Barnum said "There is a sucker born every minute". Geesh, P.Y. Barnum never actually said that either?

As you can see, I don't know much of anything about baseball. I just don't watch any sport that does not have cheeleaders.

For those of you that do know baseball I have two questions. One, do you think that players that have used steroids should have their records questioned? Two, should Pete Rose be allowed in the hall of fame?

There are times when recognizing our humanity is good. This is not an example to me. If Bonds used steroids en route to the home run title, then I can't take his efforts seriously.

How many black or Latin pitchers did Babe Ruth face in his career?

Btw, of the top 20 pitchers with the best ERAs currently playing, only TWO are black/Latino (Pedro Martinez and Mike Jackson). ....so it's not like they dominate the mound.

Ruth would've been as dominant in today's game as he was back in the pre-war era.

Asked what he thought of Bonds, Babe, after putting down his cigar, and stuffing the rest of his hot dog in his mouth, washing it down with beer, smiled broadly and let loose a tremendous fart.
