Brother Jeb would make 'great' US president: Bush May 10 12:05 PM US/Eastern

President George W. Bush praised his brother, Florida governor Jeb Bush, as an "excellent" leader who would make a "great president" of the United States, according to news accounts.

"I think Jeb would be a great president. But it's up to Jeb to make a decision to run," Bush told reporters at a roundtable interview here with several Florida newspapers.

"I would like to see Jeb run at some point in time, but I have no idea if that's his intention or not," said the president, in comments published in the St Petersburg Times, and other dailies.

Bush said he had "pushed him fairly hard about what he intends to do," but said Jeb would not tip his hand.

"I have no idea what he's going to do. I've asked him that question myself. I truly don't think he knows," Bush said.

He added that his brother's "political future is very bright - if he chooses to have a political future. But he is an independent-minded guy. His priority is his family."

The Bush family is one of the pre-eminent US political dynasties, with the Bush brothers' father, George Herbert Walker Bush, having also served a stint as US president.

I wonder what Jeb would do about drilling for oil in the Gulf.

B41 "Read my lips..."

B43 "With us or against us..."

I think that we've learned our lesson with the Bush family.

No way. If he found the give & take of the current illegal immigration debate "hurtful" imagine how he fair up under a serious international crisis.

He's plainly too sensitive.

No more Bushes, no more Nixons, no more Doles. There's been one on every ticket since 1952 (excepting the the great '64 Goldwater race). Somebody else can have a chance. I tired of being led by the same old people.

I'm for Allen!! He's as close to Reagan and Goldwater as we'll get.

I'd vote for Jeb.

The added bonus of seeing the Dowds and the Huffingtons and the Finemans and the Rathers of this world become absolutely UNGLUED would make me happy. Viva la Bush. W is the best President ever.

Bush Sr. petered out and lost interest after 4 years. W. appears to be losing interest after 6 years (NO immigration policy, NO energy policy, not being aggressive enough in IRAQ for fear we'll make our enemies mad, nothing on social security reform, ).

Maybe Jeb could work for a full 8 years.

I don't think we'll see another Bush president. The Republican and conservative base now realize that we've been had -- these are, and always have been, country club liberals who are desperate to fit in with the "right people" from Skull and Bones and the Ivy League who look down their noses at anything "right wing", except when they need their votes at election time. We don't need another boondoggle Medicare prescription drug plan, higher spending than LBJ, an endless and unnecessary war 10,000 miles away that costs the lives of our best men and women at a horrendous price for an ungrateful populace, while ignoring our borders at home and castigating those who care about maintaining this coutnry as a viable entity as racists. The Bushes would be nowhere in politics but for Ronald Reagan, who unfortunately, made 41 his vice president. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on us!!

Allen is far from Reagan, not even close.

Mike Pence is the true Reagan Conservative

NO MORE BUSHES!!!

The irony is that Jeb is the smartest of the bunch. His bad luck, I'd guess.

Speaking as someone who spends a lot of time in Florida, I'd like to say G.W. is RIGHT. :)
