I don't think the GOP wants to truly demolish them. Their existence as a threat keeps us unified- that's the theory anyway.
They know that if the Dems are trule marginalized, there will immediately be a split among the GOP. Conservatives vs. moderates/libs. It's in the GOPs best interest to keep the Dems around, and relatively powerful.
I'm glad to see approval ratings so low. Maybe the threat of losing this fall will force their hand and drive them to the right.
Watch the courts. When the liberal activists have been replaced with constitutionalists, the liberals will have lost their greatest weapon.
