Fed Govt: $118 Billion Surplus for April 2006
U.S. Treasury Dept ^ | May 11, 2006 | avacodo

Posted on 05/11/2006 2:02:16 PM PDT by avacado

For the month of April 2006 the Federal Government took in $315 billion and had a surplus of $118 billion. That $315 billion sets a record for monthly receipts. And the previous record surplus (years 1981 - 2006) was $189 billion under President Bush in April of 2001.

Didn't I see an article not too long ago about how it is a myth that lowering taxes brings in more revenue? I'm no economist, but...

It doesn't matter. Despite the record tax collection, we'll still run $300 billion in deficits this year.

This has nothing to do with the media. The USA has an abusive federal income tax system that funds big government.

Free Republic is opposed to big government. Conservatives support more limited government, reduced taxes and serious reductions in funding the liberal social welfare state.

There is nothing positive about a surplus of $118 billion. Besides, it probably came mostly from increases in the Alternative Minimum Tax.

Would you be upset if they spent the money on a Jazz Hall in Tampa, a Teapot Museum in Memphis, research on molasses, etc....or is it okay when Republicans do it?

It will be interesting to see just how they spend this money, when in reality it should be returned to the taxpayer.

Yes. But April 2005 had a $57B surplus and April 2004 had a $17B surplus. This year we had an $118B surplus and much larger receipts. That is good. Monthly back issues: http://fms.treas.gov/mts/backissues.html

It does matter. Revenues are mutually exclusive to spending.
