Gibson inspired by 'fear-mongering' Bush (Mel Gibson)

Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.

The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.

Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.

He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

The words 'out of touch hollywood actor' seemed joined the hip to many. Is there a Hollywood actor who is 'in touch'? Or is it just a comment that extreme wealth makes one out of touch?

Actually, he marches to his own drummer and doesn't care about narrow left and right categories. If he really wanted to cater to "Hollyweird," he would haven't have made a movie that dares to criticize American Indians.

There are no Constititonal means to deport American citizens not convicted of a crime at all. Much less based on a religious test.

The eastern Mediterranean had been largely Greek in culture (Hellenistic) for several centuries in Christ's time. It is pretty well established that all except the peasants in all these countries spoke Greek in addition to whatever language was native to them.

The legions at this point were by no means purely Italian any more. They were more often composed of subject volunteers from various groups who received Roman citizenship as one of the perks when retiring. For many, perhaps most, Latin was not their native language, although it was still the language of command used in the army. I would strongly suspect that Greek was much more widely used in the civil administration, as the (educated) Romans rulers all spoke it and so would the (educated) Jews and other subject peoples with whom they had to deal.

So when Jesus and Pilate spoke, it was probably in Greek, if only because if they had spoke in Latin most of the observers wouldn't have known what was going on.

Greek was a nearly universal language in the East. That's why the entire NT was written in it. Educated Jews all spoke and read Greek, and so did educated people from all other groups in the area.

thanks for this post..........the closest thing to human sacrifice in America today is abortion on demand.

Thousands of years ago, in the old world, and later in the new world, there was human sacrifice.........for better health, better crops, better yadda, yadda, yadda.

same same today........most abortions are for convience and to save the money that would be spent on carrying to term, clothes, food, shelter, child care, education, and medical for the human being..........thus leaving more money for the adult(s) to spend on better "health", better "crops", etc., etc., etc.

as in the days of old.........folks think they are getting ahead by sacrificing their young for fill in the blank.........it was wrong then, and it is wrong now........it's time for Mel to do a flick on abortion, if he has the guts.

As far as his Bush comment(s)..........it's a volunteer army, Mel, and we are in a world wide war with an enemy more dangerous, and in larger numbers than Hitler and his armies. I actually thought Mel was a lot smarter than that. Looks like I was wrong again.

I think his point was that just because somebody is on your side doens't stop them from going off the deep end.

No, his reason for posting was to disparage Christianity and Ann Coulter and he went way off topic to do it. The thread is not about Ann Coulter.

He's not butt kissing. He believes it. I just read an article in the Weekly Standard about Junkyard Prophets and they think the same thing.

So if Dubya has the whole world ticked at him, he must be doing something right.

Gibson is insane, pure and simple.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker said that last year, but did anybody listen?

We didn't listen!

the scene that implied that Jesus the carpenter invented the table-chair combo

As God, there should have been a scend of Him inventing Velcro.

Gibson's politics, with me, have no more importance than Alec Baldwins. On the other hand Gibson has made some memorable movies and also starred in them where as the only movie I thought Alec was any good in was " Red October", and he didn't make that film. We need to keep peoples personal politics separate from their careers.

I don't think Gibson is trying to get back in with his Hollywood pals. He is with me on the most important thing: Christ and His atonement for my sin. But I don't think he ever agreed with us on the war to begin with.

MEL GIBSON my question to you is WHY DID YOU REFUSE TO PAY THE MAN WHO WROTE 'THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST?' Are you a greedy man?
