The looming election in Mexico has me very concerned; the potential ramifications are too huge to even think about.
Sadly, the leftist (hell, let's just come right out and call him what he is, a communist) candidate opposing Vincente Fox in the upcoming elections in July probably still has a better than even chance of being elected despite some recent missteps. That probably explains much of Fox's bluster and his delight at poking us in the eye. When all else fails, whip out the anti-American card and double down your bets.
The race will end up going to the candidate who can manufacture the most bogus votes. We might end up with a new turnout record for a "democratic election", 200 percent or so.
So let's just say Chavez gets his man in power, and so far he's batting 1000. The current flow of illegals over the border will be a trickle compared to what we'll see when Mexico's basket case economy implodes completely like all economies do under communist rule.
I don't think folks are paying attention to what is happening in Central and South America right now. We are seeing governments being put into place that are as every bit hostile to us as Iran.
Mexico is always just on the verge of the cliff and if it falls then we are in a world of hurt.
This is a real problem bigger than illegal immigration in my opinion.
Ever think that Mexico being 'on the verge' may be why we have a policy ignoring illegal immigration?
The safety valve effect of allowing a relatively open border is largely being ignored in the MSM. -- Perhaps Bush is seeing, and acting on, a bigger picture than we know.
