I know Arizona law prevents police officers from asking if lawbreakers are here legally. Am I correct on that?
HOW do we, outside the affect states help get your laws enforced?
Let's start with Federal employment law. There is no oversight of employers, that I'm aware of. I looked at a recent Circular E, and was amazed at the rules built around protecting illegals.
NYC is declared a safe zone for illegals.
Denver is declared a safe zone for illegals.
My guess is that there are dozens of cities with the same pathetic mindset.
The problem is monumental and far more complex that we would like to believe.
It is mostly small construction companies in my state who are hiring illegals. They're painting, landscaping, etc.
In states with liberal welfare benefits it is impossible to get people to do manual labor.
Hi Ohio,
Thanks so much for this CIVIL thread! Great opening comments, too.
Regarding your comment: "I know Arizona law prevents police officers from asking if lawbreakers are here legally. Am I correct on that?"
I'm not sure about AZ, but I know several cities and/or states have instructed their local law enforcement, primarily by passing laws, that they cannot ask if someone is legal or not. In addition to the comments others have had, I think the immigration reform law needs to include that any municipality or state that doesn't check ID and call INS when they find illegals loses Federal funding - period. While many states are impacted by illegal immigration, it's a national security issue and a national debt issue, too.
Along this line we need to do something about INS/ICE - -I've heard/read on more than 1 occasion that the local police detain illegals call INS and they never come so the police release the illegals and/or ICE does come but after they're processed they're released to come back for a court date (which they never usually do). Need to make sure ICE comes for them, end the catch and release and speed up the processing/court dates.
I read some of the immigration law this a.m. and I think some of that needs to be strenghtened - I'll go find that and put those thoughts on another thread.
Thanks again!! GREAT job!
FRegards,
SC
