I've been in very few such conversations. The last one, when the 'lib tried to excuse their beliefs, I turned to walk away. When asked whether I was conceding their belief I stated 'no, I just didn't want to spit in your face'.
It is difficult because the process involves Socratic method and logic: the bane of today's left-wing emotionalism. Many people just write the whole thing off as a mere difference of opinion, which says that they don't really accept knowledge of absolutes and things like that--but they get really upset upon hearing that gas went up a whopping five cents overnight!

"Many people just write the whole thing off as a mere difference of opinion, which says that they don't really accept knowledge of absolutes and things like that--"We're all emotional animals. Some just never seem to go beyond that level of existance. And, some just never seem to get beyond the 'me first' view of things; again, something we all struggle with from time to time. The wife and I have an issue like that within our own family at this time. Having just been made aware of it, we're just beginning to struggle with how to approach it. But again, we're using logic whereas no one else seems to be. It's all part of the earthly struggle.
