Do you honestly believe that these "LEP" children are going to be made up of legal citizens? Two years ago, the stats were something like 3.5 million Texas residents were born outside of the U.S. At least a third of them are *illegally in the United States*.

Yes, I actually do believe that the vast majority of 4 year olds trying to enter pre-k here in Texas are legal citizens of this country. You have to present both an original legal birth certificate AND a legal original social security card in order to enroll in school here.

All it takes to become a citizen is to be born here. It doesn't matter whether your parents are legally here or not. If you are born here, you are a citizen here, and if you are a citizen, you are entitled to be educated here.

Are you honestly saying that you believe 3-4-5 year olds are sneaking across the border on their own to steal a "real American" baby's education?

good grief, for real, omg.

its well documented that immigrants will learn English within the first generation, also it is well documented that 2/3 or more of recent immigrants in the south west are illegal, therefore then anyone using Spanish has a greater probability they are a newcomer and illegal at that,

simple statistics; the kids learning English are the kids of illegal immigrants by and large even though the kids themselfs may be US citizens but more so are the families of legal parents made up of both parents and children whom are legal citizens and whom the parents have paid taxes there whole adult life so now are being cheated , is what they are saying.

Anchor babies only reinforce illegal behavior and encourage all the laboring mothers to get to El Paso to give birth.

They are called Anchor Babies and it's a way to cheat the system and it is wrong! Have you no shame!

No they are blatant about it. Maybe you should try standing at the San Ysidro border at 7am on a school morning and watch the youngsters (some with, but many without their parents) cross the border with their backpacks on and attend school.

FYI, the social security card is not the only way to get into pulic school. All students do have to have an ID number, but it doesn't have to be a SS card number. However, if you were born here, you get one. It makes you legal, not your parent, and most certainly does not legalize ~their~ intentions.

A 3-5 year old is somewhat responsible for their behavior, but they are not responsible for their situation, nor are they responsible for their parents. If their parents are trying to get a foothold in the door, so to speak, they use any means possible to do that. Some situations are different, but all too often, illegal parents use their children to get the benefits of American citizeship. The children are being used, and they are taught that the government owes them something more than what your average American citizen is entitled.

I don't know where you are coming from in your statements, but I can say that I am coming from my experience as a former public school teacher in Texas. Not all ESL students are illegals, nor are they all children of illegals. However, there are a lot who are one or the other.

The vast majority of ESL students are Mexican, but ESL includes everyone who is not a native speaker of English. My 2 cents (if it's even worth that much)...

-the laws should read -"if your mother was here legally and you were born here, you can apply for citizenship"....just my preference.
