NEA isn't trolling in to take us along with their agenda of tearing down No Child Left Behind.

Any conservative worth their salt should be standing with the NEA on this one issue. NCLB is a boondoggle and overstepping of intended federal powers. And from someone whose immediate family is being impacted currently by NCLB, I say scrap it. Now.

The National Education Association doesn't want their members held accountable and they don't want to teach reading and math.

That's what NCLB is doing to hurt their agenda of no accountability and political indoctrination in schools.

How is NCLB hurting, dare I ask?

Twentyfive percent of NEA members in my state are registered republicans. Politics from both sides is killing education. How do you remove the politics? HOw do you bring back discipline? Go back 30 years, the schools functioned well in America. Is it the teachers; or is how we are raising our children and our society?

NCLB was designed to further extend the fed's control in education. I thought the repubs were about local control and smaller government in America.

NCLB will be swept out the door next election and we will be back to square one.

I agree with you 1000%.

My wife is a public high school teacher (science), as is her father (history), brother (math) and sister-in-law (math). Her mother is an elementary school teacher. My wife also serves on the Board of Education in the city we live in (she teaches in a neighboring district, obviously).

While they are a family of staunch Conservatives, the NCLB law has prevented them from teaching the curriculum they want to teach. Instead they have to teach to a test that the federal government mandates they administer. Half of the information in the test is of no relevance to anything, and half of the things they might really need to know to succeed in the future is omitted.

How is this helpful to anyone?
