To that same point: I saw a bumper sticker while driving around here in Des Moines...

Satan 2008. Why settle for the lesser evil?

I'm sure the polling companies will have that all sorted out for us by then.

"New England fans will never forget when he filled in during the strike season wining 75% of his games, coach Ray Berry benched him in favor of 'Champagne' Tony Eason who stunk the joint out to just miss the playoffs."

Yes and who can forget Eason's pass rush evading technique of curling up into the fetal position? Sickening!

21 years a long time for a guy who was 'too short' to play.

Whither Dan McGwire, Ryan Leaf, Gino Toretta and other 6-foot-plus QBs?

Trivia note: despite Flutie's stellar BC career he never defeated West Virginia (they met every season back then and until the recent Big East/ACC defection).

Hi SweetCaroline, it's the Autism ping list. Doug Flutie's son is Autistic and his organization has been helpful.

Let me know if you still want off.

I always thought (although I'm way too young to have watched it) one of the great feats of college basketball history was when North Carolina beat MSU with the great Jumping Johnny Green and then Kansas with the awesome Wilt Chamberlin, both in triple overtime.

Not only did UNC beat both teams, but they did it on consecutive nights -- the tourney was played Friday-Saturday back then.

What do you think John L. Smith should have to do to stay on? Do you want Steve Mariucci to become coach at MSU?

I have to confess I don't follow MSU football as much since I left EL, but I didn't know there was talk of dismissing Smith. I think as long as he beats UM every once in a while and doesn't have drunk players trying to run over cops he should be OK.

I don't think the Lions should have fired Mariucci, but I don't see him going to MSU either. Why would he take the pay and prestige cut, especially after taking the 49ers to the playoffs all those years?

Yeah, John L. Smith has not only continually lost to UM in games where the Spartans appeared to have victory locked up, he's foisted responsibility for those and other losses on to the players, his coaches, the kicker, anywhere but himself.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt myself till this year, but the way he's publically blamed others is just not what I want in any Spartan coach, much less the coach of the football team who regularly represents MSU to the nation.

The thinking behind Steve Mariucci becoming coach is that he and Coach Izzo are best friends and would enjoy the opportunity.
