President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

You can catch mice in your house if you give them something they want, like cheese.

Yeah, but ... after you catch the mice you don't invite them to stay and breed and bring all their friends ... ! You kill the mice and dump their bodies. [Not that I am suggesting killing illegals ... but the point is to get rid of them.]

"(We'll see who is laughing when 12 million new Democrats register to vote)"

They aren't Dems..they are hard working Christians remember?

LOL Dem = Anti-Christian lazy people.

The Dems fell right into this one!!! Right on Conservative movement! We will get more conservative judges and the Dems will fall off into the stinking abyss where they belong.

To be fair, most (if not all) of those posts were just repeating the original rumor.

And they think they're so clever. :) The bottom line is, real reasoned conservatives who are genuinely socially and fiscally conservative and support the conservative agenda and want real border security and want illegals deported, would react to this speach Bush gave with the venom that some here have spewed in response to Bush tonight. When my wife told me to come sit down because Bush was giving a border speach I rolled my eyes and thought "Oh great, more lots of nothing double speak from the guy who can't use his foreign policy spin on domestic issues, and then I actually sat down and shut up (which some here could stand to do with someone is talking) and actually listened to the man, and time after time he said things that I and all other REAL conservatives have said should be done for years. I was surprised. Stunned actually.

I think the Border Control/Mexican Consulate scandal of them reporting to Mexico the size and disposition of the Minutemen made a big part of this change. But for so many here to be so bent out of shape, I have to suspect that they are not real conservatives. Either that, or they never have liked Bush and even when he does something right they blast him, which I don't understand either. When he does something wrong, I'm all for calling him on it, but when he does something right, it's stupid to not give him credit. This speach was a good start on something right regarding the border. The big tell is the fact that democrats don't support ANY of the things Bush suggested tonight. Not a one. So for someone to purport to be a conservative and blast Bush for what he said tonight, well. It isn't logical.

What's your problem, not enough people died on 9/11.....you want to try for more?

A third party could win, not spoil in '08. How, you ask? By putting America first for a change. Not Iraq's borders, but ours. Easier done than said.

And yes, not enough people died after 911. Every cave in Afturdistan would have collapsed under the weight of what should have been the lone Superpower's response. You don't screw with Roy Rodgers. Memorize it, Friend.

Do we have 11 million potheads in prison? Do you really think the ACLU will allow chain gangs? Do you think farmers and industry wants to have thieves working for them? I understand the want but it is not reality.

Come on folks, we are short of manual labor and we need a solution whether we want to admit it or not. Namecalling accomplishes nothing.

It seems Guest Worker without citizenship is worth looking at. Why even enter these threads??

I don't believe anyone posted that Dobbs liked the speech in this thread until your post.

I've given up trying to watch 24 in weekly doses.

Buying the entire season on DVD is the only way too fly!

I finished watching seasons 1 thru 4 in about a period of 6 weeks.

I try to avoid any mention of 24 and this current season #5 on FR, Limbaugh or Laura Ingraham.

Of course, there had to be one that just couldn't wait to say (explicitly in the thread title) what happened to Edgar in a vanity post.

Well I'll be damned. So that's what it is that has their noses so out of joint concerning '04 sign-ups.

Well. I think '04 signups are the best! Hey pb!

(1)The government does not have "a list of everyone you call". They don't care who you call.

(2)The phone data is literally dumped so that it can be indexed by (a)number making the call (foreign or domestic) and (b)number receiving the call (foreign or domestic) and then the reverse of that set.

(3)From the indexes on that data dump, when the intelligence analysts have a number they are tracking, from a known terrorist suspect, they can ask the NSA to look at both numbers in that call, match them to the two indexes of the data dump and see what other numbers should be put into a tree of numbers with possible relationships to the terrorist's number.

(4)If your number is never at either end of a call they have tracked, or seeking to track, or had any call relationship to the numbers in that call, then they do not even know that number is in the data dump, because they are not looking for it.

It is neither "domestic spying" or "spying" at all, with regard to your phone record. It is no more information than any private investigator can pay to obtain. It has not been "private" information since 1976 (Carter).

I think a lot of people go to the internet mainly to vent frustration about their lives and to bash somebody. They used to bash Democrats, then some got bored with that and switched to bashing Republicans on a conservative website. Some are not real conservatives and some are not very thoughtful people. They bash first and think later, if at all.
