Not with the market crash, but it definitely helped put the "Great" into the Great Depression.

You're right about the market (Hoover signed the act into law on June 17, 1930), but have no idea how you can make such a blanket statement about Smoot-Hawley's macro impact. Protective tariffs were going up all over around the world at the time. Large tariff increases have no impact on demand conditions within countries???
