So Rep. Murtha Accused American Marines of Cold-Blooded Murder... So What?
FR/Various news outlets ^ | 5/17/06 | Me

MATTHEWS: Draw us a picture of what happened in Haditha.

MURTHA: Well I'll tell you exactly what happened. One Marine was killed and the Marines just said we're gonna take care...we don't know who the enemy is, the pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and actually killed civilians and...I...

MATTHEWS: Was this My Lai? When you say cold blood Congressman, a lot of people think you're basically saying you've got some civilians sitting in a room or out in a field and they're executed on purpose...

MURTHA: That's exactly what happened.

MATTHEWS: ...not because any of the Marines are scared or anybody is scared...

MURTHA: ...this was not an action...this was not...first they tried to say it was an IED, there was no IED involved in this. This was troops, they were so stressed out, they went into houses and killed children, women and children. 24 people they killed. Now this is the kind of stress they are under. Listen, I don't excuse it, but I understand what's happening and the responsibility goes right to the top. This is something that should not have happened, that should have been investigated, they've already relieved three commanding officers...but this is the kind of stuff...stress is going to cause these kind of things. That's why I'm so upset about it.

MATTHEWS: Congressman, I just want to read something from the Marine Corps and then you can continue. The Marine Corps told us today that they're not going to comment today because the investigation is still ongoing. So they're investigating...

Thanks. I wonder if anyone watching noticed that Rummy couldn't comment because it's under investigation and that Murtha never batted an eye when it came to running his yap.
What a stupid SOB.

I'm sorry I missed the fun with our little visitor. I would have asked our "well informed" friend if he/she even knew what rank Murtha was at retirement and where that fell in the pay scale. :-)

For the record, if you're lurking Dr. Common Sense, I'm also a combat vet.

If your father has not, he should look into the Gamewardens of Vietnam.

He used to be an officer for the National board. :-) You likely know him. I was actually wearing my TF 116 t-shirt yesterday. God bless the Brown Water Navy!

I think it's a disgrace that Curt Weldon faces united opposition from the Clinton flunkies, while Murtha is looking at smooth sailing to re-election.

If you believe that, then you probably haven't been following our Murtha threads very closely. Kerry carried Murtha's district 51-49%. Two points will not be a comfortable margin, even for a well-funded incumbent. Diana Irey is his opponent and the real deal. I urge you to support her campaign in whatever way you can.

Indeed. Please help make it happen via donations, signing up for E-mails, and/or writing your own Congressional reps demanding they publicly issue a statement supporting the troops and denouncing Murtha.

Respectful call to action. If you're as angry at Jack Murtha's behavior as me, please see Post #1 for some ideas of how to effectively respond. Add to that list contacting your own Congressional reps, preferably by phone, to respectfully demand a public press release or other response to his despicable behavior.

Double your efforts to thank servicemembers you know, letting them see Murtha is NOT speaking for most Americans.

That's the one I'm taking on. I've already started.

Contractors/civilians deployed in support of the GWOT are included in my vague term "servicemembers." :-)

Hey, I think I saw that older PX lady at Camp Liberty just before I went on R&R at the beginning of the month.

She's back? She had gone home a while back, but perhaps she signed up for another tour. What an amazing 75-year old!! God bless her.

This is something that should not have happened, that should have been investigated, they've already relieved three commanding officers.

I'm still waitin' for ol' Jack to explain how not one, not two, but three officers have been relieved of duty... yet there's been no investigation. Curious, isn't it?

How was the UK?

It was great! And I fell in love with Ireland.

Being free was also a big plus. ;-)
