Border Patrol captures more than 70 after chase May 17, 2006 11:57 AM PDT
More than 70 illegal immigrants were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Sierra Vista Wednesday morning after the box truck they were riding in crashed in a neighborhood park.
Border Patrol officials said they were trying to get the driver to pull over when the truck made too quick a turn and crashed about 4:30 a.m.
About a dozen immigrants managed to run away, but agents caught about 70 people, said Agent Sean King, a Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman. There were no reported injuries.
The arrests come on the eve of President Bush's visit to Arizona's border, designed to highlight his call for improved border enforcement and an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws.
The Sierra Vista Herald has a photo and a tiny news blurb up on their website:
A delivery truck carrying more than 70 illegal immigrants hangs over the lip of a drainage ditch after it drove through Veterans' Memorial Park and Bella Vista Park before being forced to stop in area north of the Kmart shopping center in Sierra Vista early Wednesday morning. U.S. Border Patrol agents and Sierra Vista Police Department personnel apprehended about 70 people who were inside the truck. For more on this story, see Thursday's Herald/Review. My wife and three year old son were playing in that park yesterday afternoon. Seal the border now.
GOP and Bushbots: Nothing to see here move along!
Vote in the primary, make a difference!
Gracias Presidente Bush!
The only way to immediately seal the border is to send the army down there and then build the wall.
I am glad you and your family are safe.
Sierra Vista is the home of Fort Huachuca. They are already there.
70 down, 11999930 to go.
My first thought was whether or not anyone in the park was injured or killed.
Thank goodness your wife and son weren't there today.
When were they released, an hour later?
They been released yet?
News flash 65 let go.
That's about two blocks from my apartment!
Just read a report from KVOA that said a Mexican national crossing the desert with her three-year old left his body behind after he died.
Should add we only know about it because she told some Border Patrol agents who went onto an Reservation in the wee hours to retrieve it.
Dang where is your compassion? They were just one day early!. They were rushing to meet President Bush so he could amnesty them.
You people have no compassion!
Well I for one am glad they all right after the crash,I just hope they can be deported and be back in time to pick the fresh produce delivery to my grocery store tomorrow.
Wonderful... Are You Drunk?
No doubt the President will have plenty of protection so that he won't be run over by delivery trucks delivering 80+ Mexicans to the USA. And he wants to roll out the red carpet for these unwanted "guests". Ridiculous.
Yep, it's a small price to pay to lose one's country if you can pay a quarter a head less for lettuce.
Anyone wishing for a democrat congress AND an impeachment belongs over at DU, not on FR.
It seems like the border patrol is being let off of it's leash for a short period.
Maybe Mexico would be a better place for you to live?
Oh yeah. Let's put the Dimwits in power to make all of these wonderful illegal aliens voters.
Oh wait! We already did with BJ Clinton and motor voter!
In a world
where people have problems
In this world
where decisions are a way of life
Other people's problems they overwhelm my mind
They say compassion is a virtue, but I don't have the time
So many people...have their problems
I'm not interested...in their problems
I guess I've...experienced some problems
But now I've...made some decisions
Takes a lot of time to push away the nonsense
Take my compassion...Push it as far as it goes
My interest level's dropping, my interest level is dropping
I've heard all I want to, I don't want to hear any more
Is that you Vicente?
Cool! KOLD Channel 9 has a Minuteman team.
Seriously though, they're only trying to get in before the "It's Not Amnesty" amnesty passes.
No, really seriously this time, tell your wife (and the rest of your family) to be careful out there.
Sheriff Joe and his posse will take care of a big part of that number...Sheriff Joe's da Man!!
Just read a report from KVOA that said a Mexican national crossing the desert with her three-year old left his body behind after he died
Thank goodness your family is safe. Another day in the wild west--wow--I hope people wake up soon to the reality.

Spiff in my town the other night three car loads(that's right, three entire car loads) of MS-13 members ran over some folks from my towns Neighborhood Watch.

anyone wishing for an additional 193 million welfare recipients and democrat voters in the next twenty years belongs over at DU, not on FR.
uh ... maybe you cannot read or something, but the dims (and el presidente bush) ARE in power. or did you actually fail to notice that the jorge bush's senate amnesty bill got more votes from "Dimwits" than republicans?
a. you're a fool.
b. you think i am.
c. i am not a fool.
And who is wishing that?
You know even here at FR we have such delusional ideologues who think that tax cuts will save humanity that I doubt they can even comprehend the human cost or potential costs of this open borders mania. Our very elite is comprised of low rent Leninists and quick buck operators who would write your family off as collateral damage in the quest for utopia.
apparently, el presidente supremo jorge abusto, senate democraps, and rinos.
the 193 million figure, although not the most conservative estimate, is nevertheless credible, possible, and, indeed, given our government's history on such matters, probably the figure that most closely resembles what will come to pass.
Yeah ok. Whatever.
i am so embarrassed to have been put down so humiliatingly by your rapier wit.
oh ... and the clever way in which you addressed and refuted my points, point by point? you must be a lawyer. or just really, really smart.
