Our school district (San Jose Unified) closed my kids school last year.
The district is losing enrollment overall. However, it is a long and narrow district. The northern part of the district (poor) is losing enrollment, while the southern part (middle class, wealthy) is experiencing gains.
The district closed my kids school in the southern part of the district even though we are having enrollment growth, and the school was a great school. The district has lots of schools that are horrible that they didn't close.
The district merged our school with another school, and it has been a horrible experience. My girls hate, and I hate it. The funny thing is that we have been kicked out of the school because I complain too much. Of course, I am (and have been) looking at homeschooling and private school for the future. I would love to send my daughters to private school, but it is just so expensive.
