Why does this wall-building mania remind me of the Maginot Line?

Probably because it will be just about as effective given the true open-borders sentiments of the president and so many other permanent underclass advocates.

The Maginot Line was ineffective because it was INCOMPLETE, leaving open the Ardennes Forest (supposedly impassable) & the France/Belgium border (too unfriendly to the Belgians). These are the 2 breeches in the line that the Germans used to assault France in 1940. I can't recall any instance where the Germans successfully assaulted the Maginot Line from the front.

I agree Bush & co. are for open borders, despite the wishes of most US citizens, including me. But a wall is NOT open borders, it is closed borders. A wall is not easily circumvented by illegals & our multicultural pols, as are our wide open borders now.

And frankly, given the level of resistance to the wall by the likes of the Mexican government, loonie lefties, Ted Kennedy, etc., CLEARLY a wall is EXACTLY what this country needs, on both borders.

I find it curious that these same people rigorously support the forced repatriation of Cubans caught trying to enter this country, knowing that the Cubans will be punished severely for attempting to flee. Why was Elian Gonzales different from the other 12 million illegals?

I'd like to see a wall built, a massive increase in the border patrol, & congressional hearings on why we are not enforcing our CURRENT laws - deporting illegals & punishing employers who hire them.

The Senate bill & Bush's ideas are an attempt to exchange the currently weak immigration laws for even weaker ones. 370 miles of new fence & 6000 NG troops are a joke.
