He and Richard Nixon faced one when the U.S and it's allies sent the USSR packing from the middle east in the early 70's. Back then there were only two nuclear powers. Kissinger warned that we must stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons now, or there will be a score or more of nuclear states before long.

Kennedy faced a nuclear showdown, but I wouldn't say that Nixon ever really did.

I think Kissinger's referring to the Yom Kippur War here, when Israel was on the point of completely destroying the Egyptians and the Soviets warned Nixon to pull Israel back or they'd nuke Tel Aviv to save their client Nasser.

I hope Kissinger is showing his negotiator side here (state how you wish things to be, so as to lead those who although not currently helpful, are needed to be in the future). It is BECAUSE of China that Iran is today a member, or about to be a member, of the nuclear club.

Since Henry Kissinger is now working for the Chinese, last I heard, and was the one who was instrumental in leaving over two thousand MIAs behind in Vietnam, just so he could get his Nobel Peace Prize, I pay zero attention to whatever he has to say! IMNSHO, he should be doing life without parole for what he did to us!
