Great memories. I lived in upstate NY in the early '70s and had a chance to see Big Red at Saratoga. I also remember when they put in the Big Red Spring. What a champion that horse was.

I just read that his heart weighed 3 times as much as other horses' hearts. Not surprising.

My favorite was Seattle Slew...

I was a little kid when he ran, and being from Washington State, a little south of Seattle, I felt like he was practically my horse :~D

He died on derby day, 2002 at the age of 28.
