"The amnesty in 1986, that's why I'm a teacher. Otherwise, I would be cleaning houses or something," she said. That's a sad commentary on the state of California's schools.

This is the way it works for LEGAL immigrants before they get their citizenship:
"Orozco was devastated when an immigration official said he didn't qualify because he left the U.S. briefly to visit his ill father. By Orozco's account, the official said that violated a key provision of the amnesty that applicants must have a "continuous illegal presence" in the United States for one year beginning May 5, 1987. The official didn't let Orozco apply. "
When you LEAVE just buy a ONE WAY ticket or get in line and start ALL OVER AGAIN.
Someone I love had to NOT see their parents again on this earth. Both died within six months of each other of cancer. If the person LEFT to see them NOT on US SOIL, they'd have to start all over again - apply LEGALLY and begin the process again. It cost him 15-20K a YEAR and this went on for nearly 20 years. It was ALL DONE LEGALLY. Of course a SPONSOR was needed to in case things went south $$$.
So are ILLEGALS now wanting even MORE RIGHTS? NO SPONSORS too?

***They provide cautionary tales as Congress considers whether to grant a new round of citizenship eligibility for many of the nation's... ***
Congress isnt interested in precautionary tales, They just want this behind them and they want the Hispanic vote.
When it comes to seeing what may happen in the future this congress is blind as bats.Nor do they care as long as they win that vote. I can honestly say one thing. IMO there isnt a true patriot on capitol hill, they are all there for the rewards, and those are great.
