Man Could Face Charges After Being Run Over

DICKINSON — Police said a woman who ran over her husband with her car Friday night was likely acting in self-defense and that her estranged husband could face criminal charges.

The 44-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital after being struck in the driveway of a residence in the 4200 block of Scenic Drive about 8:30 p.m. Friday, was in stable condition Saturday.

The incident sparked comparisons to that of Friendswood resident Clara Harris, who ran over and killed her husband in a hotel parking lot in 2002.

The outcome of this case appears to be different.

Dickinson police said the man had reportedly gone to the home of a woman police described as his estranged wife earlier Friday.

The woman’s estranged husband had threatened to kill her and himself, according to police reports.

The man also reportedly brandished a pistol, police reports state.

The woman called police, and the man drove away when officers showed up at the home, police said.

The man returned shortly after 8 p.m. and called the woman on the telephone to tell her he was going to burn down the house, investigators said.

The woman came home to find the man in her front yard, but officials said the inside of her home had been all but torn apart.

“Everything in the house that was breakable was broken,” police Sgt. John Gottlob said.

Also, a kitchen faucet had been left running, flooding the kitchen, according to police reports.

The man threatened to throw a stone birdbath onto the woman’s car, police said.

The district attorney’s office later concluded the woman acted in self-defense when she ran over the man repeatedly.

Officers later found a .45-caliber pistol inside the house. The gun did not belong to the woman, police said.

A PHI Medical helicopter took the man to a hospital in Galveston on Friday night.

“Fortunately, for him, he managed to suffer no broken bones, and he was mainly kept there for observation,” Gottlob said.

Formal criminal charges in the case could be coming this week, officials said.

And the cops did what? Wave bye-bye? Was it too close to end of shift to make an arrest?

She probably didn't "run over" as in running him down and circling around and doing it again, but ran over parts of him trying to get away. Does that make sense? :')

"Does that make sense?"

The answer is yes. I was "run over" once in my youth and believe me, 4,000# vs 180#, the 180# loses big if it's a good whack. I still have a little limp from it 29 years later.

She'll be dead if he ever gets out.

You just have to wonder why she went home that night.

Too bad she didn't kill him...now she'll be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life.

what clued them in?

Looks like they didn't even try to contact, interrogate or warn this man after he had made death threats and showed up at her house>

After all, the rule is - don't do anything to protect the victim until it's too late.

Dickinson is not that far from Friendswood. Do we see a pattern emerging here?

Maybe they could hold him in protective custody as a material witness until they both sober up.
