Gay and Lesbian Catholics Will Enter Catholic Cathedrals Nationally On Pentecost Sunday
Yahoo News ^ | May 23, 2006

CHICAGO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM). The RSM will respond to the fear and intolerance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) persons, by many of our Catholic Bishops on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006. We will be entering, with our straight allies, Catholic Cathedrals across the nation on Pentecost wearing Rainbow Sashes as a sign of identification. Some Bishops have welcomed us in the past, and we are thankful for their welcome.

Nationally our Bishops have lobbied against our human rights. Our grief is intensified because many in the GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights. We believe the Bishops have a serious obligation to root out structures and attitudes that discriminate against the homosexual as a person. A small number of courageous Bishops are exerting their leadership in behalf of this effort, and these Bishops will have our full support and prayers.

The Gospels reveal that, while Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim radical ethic of life grounded in the promise of God's kingdom, he never ceased to reach out to the lowly, to the outcasts of his time even if they did not live up to the full demands of his teaching. Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it. And when some objected to this compassion, he responded: "Let the one among you who is guiltless be the first to throw the stone,"(John 8:7)

We are followers of Jesus Christ, and Catholic. This is why members of the Rainbow Sash Movement will wear Rainbow Sashes on Pentecost Sunday. We see homophobia within the Church as both an opportunity for education, and a way to promote the idea of love of neighbor. We are calling for dialogue.

Scripture clearly identifies homosexual behavior as an abomination,

And eating shrimp is an abomination as well...as is touching pig skin Are you as obsessed with shrimp eating and football as you are with other people's sexual practices?

May God forgive me but if one of these people disturb the service I attend, make a scene or even attempt to harm my priest I will put an end to it.

Yeah that's very religous of you - violence. That's really going and sinning no more!

In 20 years, they will be taking over.

They will be taking over a demoralized and ruined diocese akin to an ECUSA diocese in the northeast. In the mean time, the orders that are attracting vocations (FSSP for example) will start to encroach upon such areas. It will be mission territory, for sure, but it wouldn't be the first time a diocese was rebuilt from the ground up.

It would be the same if I was a divorced Catholic who remarried (first marriage in the Church, the second not) and demanded that the Church accept my invalid marriage.

Unless you have enough money - such as Johnny Kerry - then you can remarry if you want to.

I'm really sick of your pretend innocence of what homosexual "rights" are all about.

No one on this forum that I've ever seen would give a flying **** if people want to bugger each other in the privacy of their own toilet stalls. What bothers most of us is their agenda to force "gay" marriage on the public via judicial activism, indoctrinate and recruit children into the "gay" life, deny pepole their first amendment rights via "hate speech" laws, the vileness of so-called sensitivity training, the forced normalization of homosexual behavior in all manner of venues, for example the CA law mandating that adoptive parents attend homosexual indoctrination classes, and homosexual adoption. What to speak of their attacks on the Boy Scouts, their infiltration of Big Brothers and Sisters, the lavender mafia in the Catholic Church, and so on.

I personally could care less what any homosexuals or other sexually dysfunctional people do in their spare time. But they won't keep it private.

You know this, and yet you pretend that people like me are either closeted homosexuals or prudish busybodies.

Why don't you be honest and say what you really think? You're the most smarmy, phony, saccarine on the outside and wormwood on the inside fake conservative I've seen on FR in a long time.

"Sunsong". More like "Smogdirge". I wonder if you have tattoos and weird piercings, and wear rainbow jewelry.

Throwing stones means picking up pieces of rocks and throwing them at people. It doesn't mean telling someone not to sin.

But you knew that. You're a hypocritical liar. Your hateful, venemous attitude towards those who believe in moral absolutes is more totalitarian than anyone you consider wrong. You're a typical liberal - an intolerant fascist in the flimsy guise of someone who is loving and peaceful. You're full of crap and as transparent as a piece of crumpled saran wrap.

So you hate people who disapprove of promoting homosexuality.

I wonder why you hate us so much? It must be founded on fear - that maybe you're a closet homophobe. You're secretly afraid that your love for homosexuality is a cover-up for your disgust.

Do you know what it means not to condemn?

Losing your cool there? How very liberal of you to turn to name-calling rather than make a point.

I believe when you say that you are really sick(g).

My guess is that you are furious that I don't agree with you and you want to shut me up.

My understanding is that homosexuals want to have the same liberties as everyone else gets and that would include legal and financial liberties such as married people enjoy.

As far as what is taught in schools. I think the whole public school system is a sham. To try and put that on homosexuals is just piling on, imo. The schools have been places of liberal indoctrination for years and years.

I support the first amendment, including the "right" to hate speech. I opposed McCain Feingold and I oppose those who try to censor speech on threads like these.

Your hatred comes through loud and clear, little jeremiah...

You are really becoming childish now. You have expressed your hatred and tried your best to attack me personally.

Now how about you being honest. Why do you obsess with these threads? Are you really that fearful of some two percent of the population?

I fail to see why it's necessary for these people to go to church and publicly do this.

You're probably not an attention whore like these people.

That two percent of the population is the only reason Cher still has a career. Wouldn't you be fearful?

If you're in Texas (I think you are), you have the option of several Anglican Use Rite churches ...

Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX is the founding parish for the Anglican Use Liturgy. Their web site merits a visit.

That was a Missouri Synod church. It was one minister who really would have been more comfortable in ELCA. As I said, they have a great pastor there now but the damage is done and is probably beyond repair. Loss of a lot of old families because of the liberal pastor and an earlier division over having a church school, an aging congregation and a no longer stylish down town location are slowly driving the old congregation under. I wasn't able to find a LCMS congregation with the feel my old church had or new has and to spare. You are right about LCMS in general, but not for me. I am way too happy where I am now.

Is this what your church teaches you?

No it doesn't. It teaches me to love all men and do good to those who attempt to do me ill.

But I'm not a perfect human being. I'm a sinner. A real big one. I fall short of the ideal which my Church holds before me. And when I see people attempting to manipulate the Church for their own selfish ends, I get angry.

Let's be clear here shall we? All this talk about human rights, equality and hating homosexuals is just smoke. A red herring. The Rainbow Sash people want something very simple. They want the Catholic Church to change its teaching that sodomy is a serious sin. Period.

Anyone who stands up for the Church's teaching must therefore "hate" homosexuals and be some sort of Nazi. Thus we get the petulant response of the "I must have it my way" crowd; the disruption of Catholic Mass.

It's nice to know that you never get angry when something which you hold dear is attacked. Perfection must be a nice thing. The alternative explanation is that your convictions run so shallow that you feel no emotion when they are challenged and trashed and that would be a rather sad state of affairs.

Nice try at homosexual apologetics, Sunsong. I'm not obsessed with the sexual proclivities of others. I am reinterating the behavior described in the Scriptures as an abomination. The very fact that you try to equate such abomination with eating shell fish says a lot about your agenda here at FR. Don't try to pick a spat with me unless you're prepared to defend your chosen abominable behavior by means beyond the superfluous comparison you tried to spittle out. ... Sexual proclivities and reproduction are not separable in scriptures, thus being the doorway to new human souls coming into existence on Earth is a bit more sacred than you've tried to assert. If you and your rainbow 'kind' cannot see that or more likely refuse to see acknowledge, you might be more comfortable trying to pick fights at another web site. But that was a nice try on your part ...

Just in case anyone is searching for just the right thing to say to these folks, here's a short quote that might be appropriate.
