CA: Delicate immigration dance Election worries affecting governor, Fox on eve of visit

When Mexican President Vicente Fox stars at an official state dinner in Sacramento on Thursday night -- during a trip that includes a visit with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a speech to the Legislature -- his famous "enchilada completa" still won't be on the menu.

That was the recipe for immigration reform that the Mexican president promised to lobby hard to achieve in his six-year administration: a guest worker program; a path to legalization for millions of Mexican immigrants, legal or illegal, in the United States; and agreements from both sides of the border to protect Mexican workers from human rights abuses.

The political difficulty of delivering a satisfying "enchilada completa" was in full evidence Tuesday from Washington -- where the U.S. Senate still wrangled about details of immigration legislation -- to San Francisco, where Schwarzenegger delivered the keynote address before 1,100 new Americans at a citizenship ceremony.

Schwarzenegger, a Republican, sidestepped all talk of some of the more controversial aspects of the current national immigration debate supported by members of his party -- providing no comments on a guest worker program, a proposed 700-mile border fence, the use of National Guard troops at the border with Mexico or calls for criminalization of illegal immigrants and those who help them.

And he avoided some of the tough talk he used last year, such as endorsing the Minutemen citizens border patrol as "terrific."

Instead, Schwarzenegger, who emigrated from Austria, established careers as a bodybuilder and Hollywood movie star and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1983, was upbeat in his remarks.

"When you hear so much about the costs of immigration ... let's not forget all the great things immigrants contribute to this country,'' Schwarzenegger said.

You idiot, the cost to the taxpayer here in California is absurdly high and getting worse by the day. Even sealing the border will leave us strapped until the illegal alien population is reduced. Let Fox and his corrupt, elitist cronies pay for their citizen's social services. Present Fox an itemized bill for the cost during his term and demand that he step forward with a plan to repatriate the illegal aliens.

Arnold (for all his faults) did not sneak into America ilegally. The fact that he is an immigrant is irrelevent. He has also fully assimilated--the illegals intend to never assimilate.

Fox is a slick operator and a tough mobster.

Arnold is not as smart as he thinks he is. He better tread very carefully when dealing with a world class snake like Fox.

I'm sure he and Vinnie will have a nice chat. After all, Vinnie just came back from Austria.
They can plot how to prepare the little people for their "global future"
"My goal is to work as hard as humanly possible to keep California
growing, and to improve our quality of life, to protect our values,
and to prepare our people for a global future. "
