Irey/Murtha go Toe-to-Toe

...Diana Irey and a busload of supporters headed to D.C. to demand Murtha apologize to Marines for recently accusing some of them of being cold-blooded killers.

"Mr. Murtha's comments, I believe, were irresponsible and they put our men and women serving overseas in greater danger," Irey said.

Murtha recently said several Marines killed at least 15 Iraqi civilians in cold blood last November and said action should be taken.

While the U.S. military doesn't dispute the congressman's claim, Irey said Murtha is in the wrong.

"Being a former Marine himself, he should know they have a process in place to take care of situation that may have happened that should not have happened," Irey said.

"By coming out and calling them 'cold-blooded killers,' he's already tainted the minds and possible jury of those who will be hearing these allegations."

Irey's visit to Washington, D.C., comes on the heels of Murtha receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for speaking out against the war.

Irey said she believes many eye the Kennedy family with suspicions and said she's never heard anything positive about the award.

There were 40-50 attendees in the room, with media from the Associated Press, Roll Call, Channel 6, and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Probably others I didn't hear about.

After this press event, the bus headed down to the Lincoln Memorial for a secondary event. I did not attend that one.

Diana's husband expressed his sincere appreciation for all the online support they have received from Free Republic and others sites. Money is necessary evil in a political campaign, to get one's word out.

Thanks for posting this. The Washington Observer-Reporter (Washington, PA, that is) ran a story on this morning before her conference, and here is an interesting quote:

Irey's campaign spokesman, Jason Davidek, said Irey has been approached by several nationally broadcast programs to do appearances since Murtha's most recent comments.

I really hope that's true--the more exposure she gets the better, though I doubt she'd make it on the Sunday shows.

Ms. Irey from PA did what our reps in Virginia have not - publicly called on Murtha to apologize. And yes, I have contacted both Sen. Allen and Warner, as well as Rep. Tom Davis.

It's not a piece of genius. It's just that the key is to get him live. Don't berate him, don't look like a meanie, just gently put him on the defensive.

Whenever he's faced with unexpected questions, he barely says anything.

Murtha sounds like he's dumb as a post. Agreed, make him look dumb without being too rough personally. Just hold him accountable, firmly.

If we can make it hot for him, it will at least be a morale-booster for Republicans around the country.
Might even teach our other candidates a lesson. Ms. Irey should be commended for her campaign, and supported with $$ and publicity!

This is the job of Irey and of Murtha's conference. Why throw a punch at somebody who is beating himself up?

Murtha has thrown his last knife into the backs of our troops. If the government won't do anything to stop this traitorous behavior, it's up to US to retire him. If the people of PA could do it to 14 of our incumbent legislators, then FReepers and patriots can do it to Murtha!
