Irey/Murtha go Toe-to-Toe
WJAC-TV (Ch. 6, in PA) ^ | 5/24/06 | Unknown

...Diana Irey and a busload of supporters headed to D.C. to demand Murtha apologize to Marines for recently accusing some of them of being cold-blooded killers.

...

"Mr. Murtha's comments, I believe, were irresponsible and they put our men and women serving overseas in greater danger," Irey said.

Murtha recently said several Marines killed at least 15 Iraqi civilians in cold blood last November and said action should be taken.

While the U.S. military doesn't dispute the congressman's claim, Irey said Murtha is in the wrong.

"Being a former Marine himself, he should know they have a process in place to take care of situation that may have happened that should not have happened," Irey said.

"By coming out and calling them 'cold-blooded killers,' he's already tainted the minds and possible jury of those who will be hearing these allegations."

Irey's visit to Washington, D.C., comes on the heels of Murtha receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for speaking out against the war.

Irey said she believes many eye the Kennedy family with suspicions and said she's never heard anything positive about the award.

Stay with Channel 6 News Wednesday evening as we cover this story from Washington, D.C. We will bring you more details on Irey's comments, as well as Murtha's response.

You're thinking like a sergeant, you're playing checkers. You've got to think like a general, playing chess.

I found that advice to be very reminiscent of Gen. George S. Patton, and I think he is in good company.

You forget she has been the Washington County Commissioner for a long time. People know her and "she is the nicest person you would ever want to meet."

All she has to do is be herself and support the grandsons, grandaughters, nephews, nieces, son & daughters that Murtha is trashing and endangering by his comments.

Zel Miller Dems (like some of my mother's kin in Fayette county) are not going to take kindly to someone trashing their loved ones. These aren't Philly-style plantation Dems, and they will kick his senile old butt to the curb.

Uphill? Yes. Doable? Absolutely.

If we're to insist on keeping a game analogy, then I would argue that my long-term goal of defeating Murtha and sending a strategic message to our nation's military and her enemies is quite chess-like.

Well said! But doable only with our help.

Murtha is stupider than he looks and sounds if he actually issues a response. His best chance of survival is to ignore Irey and hope/trust that the media will ignore her as well.

I agree, which is why I expressed surprise at the supposed coverage of Murtha's response. It may have simply been the TV station's way of saying they'd (hopefully) carry both sides of the story.

Murtha has thrown his last knife into the backs of our troops. If the government won't do anything to stop this traitorous behavior, it's up to US to retire him. If the people of PA could do it to 14 of our incumbent legislators, then FReepers and patriots can do it to Murtha!

And take Fast Eddie down with him.

"asked about Murtha, what the GOP reps should do is mumble about him and then go on to praise the military themselves"

The big mistake has been milquetoasting these Dems on their weak record of taking care of the military IMHO

Take Murtha for instance, He's lauded as a champion of the military due to his long tenure on the House Armed Services Committee. In reality he was Chairman of the Committee when Clinton conducted the Bottom's UP review and cut the military much deeper than Bush's father recommended. Then years later, he complains about the broken Army, the same military force structure that he was Chief architect of! Same with issues like Body Armor,...That should have been fully funded back in the 90's. What the hell did Murtha do about it?< NOTHING!!!BR> Seems to me the only thing he's been successful at is diverting defense dollars to pet projects in his district. There is also a huge hole in his reserve years according to his website. Not a single medal, deployment or meaningful accomplishment from when he left Nam in until his retirement in 1990. 22 years of nothingness.....My spidey sense is tingling.

Did Murtha get a blood transfusion from Kerry or visa versa? He should give up his military pension.

IMHO, Murtha has been compromised by someone on the left and they are pulling his strings. The guy has always been on the shady side of things.

Ms. Irey was at the podium, with maybe 10 of us frumpy male veterans on the platform behind her.

Coop, of all possible words to describe you, "frumpy" is the one of the last imaginable choices.
