You're thinking like a sergeant, you're playing checkers. You've got to think like a general, playing chess. You don't win with one strike. You draw out the other player and then you strike when you have the advantage. Make incremental success. It's a long race, the finish line is November.
If asked about Murtha, what the GOP reps should do is mumble about him and then go on to praise the military themselves. Murtha's the crazy old guy who drinks from the paper bag and mutters to himself. Treat him that way.

I say that with humor, but this isn't a game. That's why I'm not viewing it as such.

Mumbling is Denny Hastert's specialty, and Bill Frist's, and often George Bush's. It gets us nowhere.

The big mistake has been milquetoasting these Dems on their weak record of taking care of the military IMHO
Take Murtha for instance, He's lauded as a champion of the military due to his long tenure on the House Armed Services Committee. In reality he was Chairman of the Committee when Clinton conducted the Bottom's UP review and cut the military much deeper than Bush's father recommended. Then years later, he complains about the broken Army, the same military force structure that he was Chief architect of! Same with issues like Body Armor,...That should have been fully funded back in the 90's. What the hell did Murtha do about it?< NOTHING!!!BR> Seems to me the only thing he's been successful at is diverting defense dollars to pet projects in his district. There is also a huge hole in his reserve years according to his website. Not a single medal, deployment or meaningful accomplishment from when he left Nam in until his retirement in 1990. 22 years of nothingness.....My spidey sense is tingling.

He's more like a Kennedy driving a car, but he's headed straight for our troops. Friends don't let friends drive drunk.
