I remember seeing a police car near Carlin, Nevada once--I didn't get a good enough look to see what kind it was (aside from a police car), but I was doing 70 down the interstate and he passed me like I was standing still...Some guys get all the nice toys.

The western side of North Dakota is a veritable speed trap. I was headed to Minot, North Dakota several years ago, and was the only one on the highway it seemed, and all of a sudden a cop car came over a hill, turned his lights on, pulled me over. I was going 65 in an unposted 55 MPH stretch of 2-lane highway about 3 hours west of Minot.

But I agree, I couldn't imagine going across lonely stretches of highway across states like Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, or even Nevada at 55 MPH. I-90 across South Dakota for example seems like it takes forever to get from Rapid City to Sioux Falls even at interstate speeds. The north-south drive across the interstate through Wyoming from Montana to Colorado seems like a long drive too, even at 75 MPH.
Heck, the women in Wyoming seem to drive faster than the men.
