"But Comptroller Strayhorn, the state's chief fiscal officer, said the legislation will give average Texas homeowners a cut of "only $598" over the three-year period. She said this year's tax cut will average $52 for homeowners."

Did you believe that there would be any tax relief for homeowners? In three years homeowners' property evaluation can (and likely will) be increased by thirty percent. There went even the hope of tax reduction.

Uh no. She's a liar running for governor who has often manipulated numbers to say whatever her message de jour is.
Her statements are BS.

Temporary relief only, if Strahorn is right, we don't even really get that.

Did you read the article? Care to refute her, instead of the usual name calling.

And because Perry has always been honest and straighforward we should trust him? I thought that he was running for office also. Check out how they each arrived at their numbers. That will tell more than their statements.

So is Perry's. His numbers do not add up. DOn't ask me ask Paul Bettincourt the Harris county tax collector assessor. All Perry did was give us a huge tax increase with no real help to home owners.

Strayhorn's a little bit nutty, but property tax valuation is probably one of the most corrupt methods of collecting revenue, at least in Texas. There's no doubt that the property valuation will just increase to keep the revenue level.

Why bother? She is as honest as Bill Clinton. Do you take him at face value? Talk to your accountant, do you realize how easy it is to fudge numbers and projections to fit an intended outcome? Not to mention how often these two Chronicle political reporters have twisted the truth in their stories. Can you cite a single article they've written that actually presented TX Republicans in a positive light? Did you also fall for Brian Ross' Hastert stories?
To: jpsb
Is this the same Strayhorn who lost something like $5 billion dollars is tax revenue last year due to a calculation mistake and didn't even realize it until the Governor pointed it out? Yea, she is a real authority..

Anyone else remember when the lottery and scratch cards were going to solve all of Texas' education problems?

There is no way in heck I will vote for Strayhorn. But like the GOP in Washington, I'm ticked off at the so called Republicans that run the show in Austin. Like Immigration, we will not fix the big picture unless we close the border. Using this comparison with property tax relief, we will see little or none at all unless the state reigns in the appraisal boards across the state. That's were the real crime is being committed against we the taxpayer in this state. They are out of control.
Perry might get my vote in the end, but Kinky Friedman is looking like a good, viable alternative.

No, he gave us a real and substantial (roughly 1/3rd) tax cut. The problem is in the failure to cap the annual rate of appraisal increases, a failure shared with Dewhurst and the legislature. So without further action many people in the fast growing urban areas will see that tax cut dwindle away over time. But that is far different than what she and the Perry-hate brigade presents as 'fact'.

No, they aren't. Perry needs to go. He's screwing us again.

No offense, but do you really think the Quasi-Marxist Kinkey can even add high enough to deal with the numbers we are talking about. Running Texas is like running one of the largest countries in the world. This isn't amateur hour. Sure Kinkey may be a 'good guy' as many point out, hell, he likes dogs, but that doesn't mean he can handle even a small city's government...
Perry is far superior to Strayhorn and Kinkey in all aspects.

And more gambling was Strayhorn's proposed solution to Robin Hood.

Yea, the Chronicle is a source for objective coverage in Austin. Yea right. The Chronicle's Austin bureau chief writes an opinion column that appears in our Corpus paper mainly when the Leg is in session and he is nothing but a talking points man from the Rats and all of the liberal interest groups in Austin. And they claim their opinions never influence their coverage on the news pages.

She is joined in point this out by many including hte Harris County Tax collector Assessor, a republican and the republican nominee for the Senate District 7 seat.
