"Why bother?"

Well thanks for being honest, but if you are not going to read the article then you can not understand why Strahorn calls Perry's numbers bogus. All you can do is name call. Now I can't stand Strayhorn but I think she is right. Perry's numbers do not add up. Many of us Texas Freepers have been against this plan but none of us thought Perry was cooking the books. Now it looks like he was.

That tax cut will not be ther in three years or so with the property tax appraisals rising at 7 to 10 percent a year. But his new tax will. This is useless without a property tax appraisal cap. Everyone I know who has looked at it knows we are being shafted.

My accountant, and most accountants and financial planners I know, think Perry's numbers are pretty accurate. They also disagree with the appraisal valuation threats as more and more people are fighting the issue via arbitration and more appraisal districts are changing their stripes.

More and more citizens are joining the appraisal review boards and are stopping these massive increases. Is it everywhere and perfect? No, but it is moving in the right direction and it is showing the worst case scenario that people are jumping about, isn't going to happen.

When appraisal challenges go to arbitration, more often than not the citizen wins. It is simply about educating yourself and taking the proper steps.

Yes, Strayhorn did not calculate an improving economy, the improving economy generated an unforeseen surplus.

And for the record I do not hate him. I oppose his new higher taxes and fake tax cut. It is to the determent of my family as teh primary reason. That and I do dislike being lied to.

Don't also forget that Strayhorn is in the pocket of the TEA, probably the biggest waste of money in Texas and the #1 reason our schools are doing poorly.

Those who complain also don't realize that Texas citizens have the second or third lowest tax burden per citizen average (including property taxes) while generating the fifth highest tax revenue in the country. We must be doing something right.

While I am no fan of this oppotunistic, self-described "one tough grandma"; I can't stand Rick Perry either. He is an embarrassment to the State of Texas and his alma mater, Texas A&M. The guy is just stupid.

So, I hope grandma gets as much traction as she can out out of her attacks and pull votes from the dumb a** governor. Hopefully the votes he loses will go to Kinky Friedman (I) the only sensible candidate in this race; for real.

And more gambling was Strayhorn's proposed solution to Robin Hood.

Yep. Video poker machines at race tracks, closing business tax loopholes, draining the governor's business development fund (which helped bring new businesses to Texas), and "budget savings."

IOW, Strayhorn does not have a clue how to provide a steady source of funding for Texas schools. Her solution would have resulted in the Texas Supreme Court (which owns this case) mandating tax increases in who-knows-what area.

Strayhorn is nothing but mouth. Her $5 billion revenue error last year proved she couldn't even do the job she was elected to.

The sad part of this is that of the 4 running we do not have a small government low taxes conservative. I would not spit on any of them if they caught fire. Also as a side note. I live in the Houston area and listen to talk radio everyday during drive time. Out of over 50 calls in the past 2 weeks only 2 or 3 defending Perry's big government grab. The rest are against it and him. Check the wind.

Not home owners, our property taxes are driving us out of our homes. The only reason I can still afford to live in my home is becuase I refinanced to 5 1/4 from 7 3/8. Property Taxes plus manitory insurace or now greater then my note.

Friedman would turn Texas into a laughingstock.

How would Friedman fund Texas schools? Anybody know?

He has NOTHING in the way of policy statements on his web page. Just pap.

That's because you listen to Houston's equivalent of Michael Savage: Dan Patrick.

When these three stooges (Ma, Kinky, Chris Bell) are confronted during debates and asked how they would fund education, they'll be revealed for the shill artists they are.

Lets get a few thing straight:

Dan Patrick is speaking the truth, he also is teh republican nominee for the senated district 7 seat and he won with about 70% of the vote in the primary. This ia a safe rep district. He will have vastly more infulence in Austin then you or I.

The Harris County Tax collector assessor, who is on the short list to replace Delay on the ballot agrees with Dan.

And of course the Austin "Shut up and Pay you pessant" Crowd doe snot like them. Peopel who are doing wrong never like to ahve their transgressions exposed.

We may end up with Kinky Friedman in office if this keeps up.
