Boy! Have things changed since I was in the military. Used to be that you had to earn a Bronze Star by actually performing heroic actions in battle, not by simply doing your job.

For example:

His courage, skills and composure during times of danger and distress provided the reassurance his Marines needed to overcome their fears and anxieties and accomplish the mission."

I've seemed to missed the part whereby he actually saved the lives of his fellow solders, the only part that I could find that he helped them overcome their fears and anxieties.
