I don't think bribery qualifies as "legislative acts" LOL
I sent the following email to my Congresscritter (a solid Conservative Republican):
"Congressman Hastert, and those supporting him on the William Jefferson situation are WRONG! The U. S. Constitution does NOT prohibit exercizing a warrant in a Congressional office. Hastert, Pelosi, and others are obfuscating the situation and making fools of themselves.
Congressmen are no more above the law than I am. Should I have committed the same crimes that Congresscritter Jefferson is accused of, the FBI, or any other law enforcement organization with jurisdiction, would be over and through my house in a nano-second, and I'd have no control (or say so) over what they confiscate. You people want to retain privacy; don't break the law!
With Congressional opinion polls showing public support being even less than for the President, this is the WRONG message to send. It smacks of petulance, ignorance and pomposity. Suggestion: Next time you're with Hastert, finger-flick him upside the ear and tell him to get real, and concentrate on the Nations business instead of his own ego. Oh, and tell him, in turn, to stay away from Pelosi; she's a bad influence on anyone within 500 yards.
I've always had respect for Hastert. That's gone. He's become just another office seeker to me. Oh, and be sure to tell him that he needs to get 100% behind the House Immigration Bill, HR 4437. This garbage the Senate passed yesterday MUST NOT STAND!
If this reads as though I'm fed up and mad, well, I am. The Republicans are supposed to lead, not act like Prima donnas."
I highly recomend watching Michelle Malkin's "vent" video on hotair.com :D
No kidding. Obviously you didn't read what I posted.
Good post! Bookmarking it!
Until 500,000 or so of us "serfs" go and protest in DC nothing is going to change. They are ALL crooks and I'm so sick of politicians I want to scream!
I did read what you wrote, Sandy, I was just highlighting the absurdity of anyone who would claim that clause as a shield for bribery.
Um, is selling your office a felony? If not, why not?
Go tell Hastert your honest opinion. Oh, and when you find his email site on his congressional page...guess what...its geared so that anyone outside of his district is going to have a terrible pain in sending in a simple two-line email. You have to know the zips-plus-four of the 14th district....I wasted 30 minutes last night trying to get the right plus 4 combo. The guy ensures that as few people contact him as possible...so you have to mail in your attitude on the dimwit.
So let's go to the next issue. For ole Denny....if its not the FBI who investigates you for a federal crime...THEN WHO will? Denny wants to have some special committee shake your hand and be nice about any bad things you've done. Denny and all of the leadership don't want public issues thrown around. They don't want their special status or favors lessened. They want the bribes, special loans, and gifts to continue. They have no wish to fix corruption in congress or the senate. You basically are talking about every single member now being corrupt and sleeping in bed with special interests.
Ever wondered how a company can make $100 million in profit, and only pay $5 million in taxes? Ever wondered how you could establish a special trust fund which you and your relatives to use and hide capital without taxation? Ever wondered how you could get federal property given to you free of charge? Ever wondered how you could get congress to make special allowances for Nigeria to buy your products even if they were not the cheapest price possible? Its Denny....and his friends. They get golf buddies, campaign buddies, and foreign interests to visit to hand over cash.
Denny and his friends don't want anyone walking into the special situation they have made....upseting the cart....taking the $100 million that they receive each year in allowance, gifts, hotel stays, free boat trips, airline tickets, etc. Corruption...pure and simple.
And your choice? Will Rush stand up and talk about this? No. Its the way that DC works. The only thing you can do....is fire your representative this fall. Don't vote for the joker. Find some totally unknown character running in the election....and give him your vote. Dump the corruption...and do it every single election. Upset the cart and force the lobbyists to pump 3 or 4 times the current amount of money into DC bribes. Make it as expensive as possible.
Every time a dumbocrat gets caught with hands in the cookie jar, some other issue is promoted over it.
A $100,000.00 bribe caught on tape - separation of powers.
Bad news for dumbos - timing of the release.
Dumbos dirty tricks memo - how did the pubbies get the memo.
Etc, etc...
More like give William Jefferson 45 days to weasel out of his predicament.
me thinks there are many more shoes to drop about corruption on the hill in both parties and hastert is the boy with his finger in the dike
I doubt that will happen, there is already too much evidence against Jefferson. Bush offered Hastert a way to climb down off his high horse; Hastert made a fool of himself, and the sealing of the papers/disks/etc., is simply a way to let Hastert regain his senses.
Will Rush talk about this? You obviously weren't listening yesterday.
Congress has been out of control--usurping Executive authorities and poking their noses into everything--since Watergate. Bush has been doing a fair job of correcting such abuses. The only branch of government more messed up is the Judicial.
I see. Yes, it would be absurd if someone were actually making that claim.
The 45 days simply brings them closer to election period and forces Hastert to shut up or else it continues on. If I were Bush...full speed ahead. Investigate every single problem that pops up. I'd make every congressman fear lobbyist...just being seen with them ought to give them a panic attack.
It's been a while since states set rules for naturalization.
