Can't post because of copyright stuff and USAToday.com's hatred of Free Republic, so you just go to USAToday.com and look for the article.

The Spanish-American War 3% tax on long distance phone is gone! Wow, only takes government 108 years to end a tax, nothing like the efficiency of government.
Take note in the article how the author cites how this will cost the poor, pitiful government $46,000,000,000.00. No mention of how much this saves the taxpayer, of course. Government knows best!

Well, if we're lucky, in another 108 years, more taxes will be cut off. It takes them a while, but they eventually get around to it.

Now that we got rid of that we can start asking about others. When did Sales Tax get implemented?

Just wanted to see if this passes as ok, or if it still violates USAToday's hatred filters.
thanks!

If we were allowed the interest only on all the taxes that we pay in our lifetime we would all be rich.

I will guarantee that it is no longer profitable for the government to collect this tax, or it would still be on your bill.

Rest assured this 108 year old tax will be replaced with something even more lucrative for government. At this moment in Washington they're trying to come up with a tax on the Internet ... as in a e-mail tax. Just a matter of time ... and it won't take 108 years.

New York. How about federal income tax? Sorry for pestering, but I am not a tax historian by any stretch :)

Note this is only the excise tax on long distance service and the 3% tax on local phone service still stands. Though I have been paying my own phone bills for nearly 30 years my refund will only go to 2003. Also no word whether this refund will also cover the excise tax collected on your cellular service.
While this repeal is long overdue, I'm certain new taxes will soon be levied on my Internet access to pay for subsidizing broadband service in rural areas.
