What the Base Thinks [about illegal immigration]
Powerline ^ | May 25, 2006 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 05/26/2006 8:08:46 AM PDT by Tirian

The Bush administration and Republican Senators have badly misjudged both the attitudes of most Republicans (and, of course, most Americans) toward illegal immigration, and the intensity of those views. While we have opposed the Senate plan, we have been pretty mild-mannered about it. So I'm turning the microphone over to my friend Bob Cunningham. No one I know of argues immigration-related issues more cogently. Equally important, no one I know of conveys the white-hot anger and sense of betrayal that millions of Americans feel about this issue more effectively.

We know that this site is widely read in the White House and in Congress. To all Republicans in Washington: please, please read what follows with care, and understand that Bob speaks for most Americans and the overwhelming majority of Republicans:

Here's what they're missing, and it is the principal reason, in my opinion, WHY the anti-ILLEGAL forces are so upset -- and so powerful.

It has to do with the bad faith, calculated deceit, Orwellian propaganda, dishonest sophistry, misdirection, arrogance, presumption, indifference to, and, indeed, contempt for the beliefs of huge numbers of ordinary Americans -- including LEGAL immigrants and Hispanic natives! --- on the part of political/media elites.

Let's recognize that the political process has --- democratically --- designated the illegals AS illegal. Why? Because we, as a nation, decided that their presence -- NOT themselves per se (as the false attribution of racism would have it) --- but their presence in such numbers for such purposes (the phony Jobs Americans Won't Do/Jobs Americans Are Not Doing) is undesirable. There are perfectly reasonable grounds for that judgment. When did we vote for the Mexification of America? ANS.: NEVER....Indeed, going back to the 1965 immigration "reforms", assurances were REPEATEDLY given (Kennedy) that such reforms would NOT lead to an influx or demographic change. And guess what? The burden of proof is NOT on the nation to justify this stance.

Period. Full stop. End of discussion.

Since these elites don't like that decision now they want us to accept a fait accompli..and more! They feel perfectly justified in collaborating in the subversion of our democratically enacted immigration regime --- with crass, narrow, economic special interests and with others having perhaps more sinister designs. Their objectives --- open borders, a free flow of cheap labor --- are plain now for all to see. Some no longer even bother to pretend otherwise.

Given that, there is NO REASON to believe ANY of their promises --- the "wall," enforcement of "tough" conditions for a "path to legalization/citizenship" or limits in a "tough and smart" "temporary" "guest workers" indentured servant-helot program. We also know that the very underlying rationale itself for "temporary" "guest workers" (the economically illiterate JAWD/JAAND) is in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to ANY arbitrary "limits"....Indeed, the very claim itself that deportation is "impossible" renders the enforcement promises self-refuting! We should all ignore the false promises and intentional non-feasance in the past?...and do I even have to mention the Simpson-Mazzoli fraud? "This time it's different"?....we REALLY mean it now?....

The ultimate retort of the immigration celebrationists --- let us call it the "immigrants are good people" argument --- is totally beside the point. It is an assertion that no one would disagree with, but it is also an argument that has NO internal LIMITING PRINCIPLE. There is, on its own terms, no non-arbitrary basis for excluding ANY ONE of the 6 billion non-Americans. Other than criminal disqualification, most of them, are, indeed "good people"....so what?

Well, we already decided the question of numbers and limits...and the political/media elites, in conjunction with the scofflaw employers, do NOT have standing to subvert the democratic decision made, upon deliberation, several times in reliance on what we now can see were plainly false promises.

Never again.

Me:I'll ask the simple question again. Does the senate bill raise quota limits?

The Senate bill quadruples legal immigration

Quota limits obscures immigration creep..
(A) The legalized aliens and/or new citizens being able to import others in their familys.. and those others imported... importing yet others.. go to (A)..

Mexicans will be the biggest beneficiary of the Senate immigration bill because there are so many here who will bring in lots of family legally as soon as they can. It's called FAMILY REUNIFICATION and our immigration system tilts way too far in favor of it. Canada, Australia, New Zealand emphasize skills, education and English proficiency

Long time legal immigrants are generally against the illegal alien invasion but the recently arrived legal immigrants (and the recently legalized ones...they lived here illegally but somehow got legal status) tend to work with, marry, employ, live in same community as the illegals. New legal immigrants show the illegals the ropes. They network for scams, tax evasion, getting welfare and gubbermint housing and medical.

Rand is right. But it took her 37 eye-glazingly dull words to say what Burke did, trenchantly, in fewer than half as many:

''The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.''

Every category of legal immigration will be quadrupled or quintupled, and the racket called "family-chain migration" will be dramatically expanded.

We are indebted to the Heritage Foundation for its stunning report proving that the so-called 614-page "compromise" bill being debated in the Senate (under the Martinez-Hagel names) is a stealth open-borders bill that would import permanently and put on the path to U.S. citizenship at least 66 million people, with the actual number rising to at least twice that amount when they bring in relatives.

Yours is a true and well-stated chronology of events that shows disrespect for the conservatives who made Pres. Bush's two terms possible.
As for the Rodney King "Can't we all just get along" crowd, that's the theme song of political losers. That's the song George Michal and Everett Dirksen were singing during the 40 years that FDR, LBJ, and Tip O'Neill etc. were promoting socialism in the US. Socialism and big government incroachment on liberty were never brought to a vote either. The Left prefers to boil the frog slowly, you know.

Let me say that heritage report has some serious problems. I saw that the first time I saw it. When it first came out it projected close to around 93,000,000 immigrants would come in the next 20 years. Thats interesting since according to the CIA report the current population of Mexico is 107,000,000. Now I know that this isn't all Mexicans but they would would make up the substantial total of that group. So one knows something is off. The figure was revised to 66 million because of later Senate amendments according to the Heritage Foundation.

Here is a report that takes on some of the assumptions the report makes
http://www.ailf.org/ipc/policybrief/policybrief_2006_scaretactics.shtml

I respect the Heritage Foundation but I think they really made some big assumptions here.

Blame the Senate or Congress? Bush has had six years to do something about immigration. These presidents can't sit on their hands when a our own country is being invaded.

What has he done? Conservative judges. Tax cuts. Moral leadership. Strength and resolve for our military and in the war on terror.

He hasn't changed. If you 'feel' betrayed, then perhaps you have a self-centered and inaccurate view of the Constitutional role of the President.

It's not about you OR your feelings, go. It's about leadership and integrity...........and he hasn't lost an iota of that.

And no one who understands the meaning of the word 'integrity' believes that President Bush lacks it.

The figure was revised to 66 million because of later Senate amendments...

If the Senate made Amendments, once their designs were exposed by Heritage and Sessions, to get it down to only 66 million, then the previous figure must have been much higher, quibble how you may with the Heritage figure.

Are you happy now with the modest influx of only 66 million Democrat voting, public assistance consuming, assimilation-challenged immigrants? Is 66 million enough to get wages down low enough to suit employers, do you reckon? With all the manifold benefits of immigration, isn't it a shame it is so low? What do you think?

Since you raise the same issues from your previous post... I'll repost my answer.

And again, what has President Bush done in his 2nd term to warrant the respect of Conservatives?

----

Having integrity. Yes, in comparison to Clinton, President Bush does have integrity.

---

Protecting the country... hmmm, isn't that part of the oath of office? Merely follow the oath is worthy of respect in your mind?

---

Leading the troops with honor and moral governance are minimum standards for the job of President.

---

Nominating conservative judges... Conservatives had to hold his feet to the fire for that to happen. Perhaps you found Harriet Miers to be a paragon of conservatism?

---

Getting the economy to boom... is what all President's want, conservative OR liberal.

---

Being our CinC in time of war is not merely something a President does... it is something that is forced upon him.

Presidents do not make war simply to placate their political followers.

...

Again, what has President Bush done in his second term to warrant our respect? In many Conservatives view, he has squandered all the respect he's earn in his first term pursuing goals that are very liberal.

Well the problem is that I have problems with the Heritage numbers as well as many others peoples numbers.. A couple of weeks ago Sessions was talking about the possibility of 213 million immigrants coming to the USA in 20 years. Now thats a problem because as the report points out that is 70 million more than the combined populations of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Thats not going to happen. It's even silly to put that out but it was touted all around the net and in papers.

The study by the Heritage foundation makes many assumptions largely based in a theoretical world that doesn't exist in reality. It also double counts, assumes the economy will continue going gang busters, doesn't take in account Declining Latino Birthrates, totally ignores the fact of circular Migration, etc, etc. So no. I don' think we are going to have 66 million new immigrants over the next 20 years.

So no. I don' think we are going to have 66 million new immigrants over the next 20 years.

Do you see, Catholicfreeper, how the people who wrote the bill have allowed for us to drain the entire populations of neighboring countries? Not by accident did this happen. They snuck it in. Just as in 1965, all sorts of assurances are given that the immigration bill will make no big demographic difference, and all are lies.

The people who wrote this bill started with the intent of open borders, and toned it down, and obfuscated just enough so that they figured enough people would be bamboozled. They were caught by an alert Heritage Foundation and Sessions. The 66 million is still ridicuously large. How many tens of millions does it take to glut the maw of cheap labor employers?

Any assurances given by anyone favoring this bill mean nothing. You don't think that it will be 66 million. Great. If you are wrong, it will be like Flounder was told in Animal House. "You screwed up. You trusted us."

The worst part is their unwillingness to assimilate or "acculturate" and learn English. This was the common link between Italians, Germans, and millions more and the common ingredient that brewed the American melting pot. Nope, they don't want to learn English. They want special services. Rules won't apply to them (much like the arrogant elite of the Democratic party--must be Democrats-in-the-making.) And if they really wanted to prove their desire to be here, they would be pushing for "fast track" through service to the USA, e.g., military enlistment and other voluntarism.

What we're looking at is not a bunch of people wanting to work to make a better life. It's millions of people who want to better deal than life-on-the-dole in Mexico because our "dole" is better.

Here is a propsed bill from technoguy. Bush should be sending this off to the senate as a guildeline to stop the invasion.
BILL PURPOSE:
To provide for effective reform of current immigration laws and to deal with the urgent national security problem of illegal invasion of the United States by foreign citizens from south of the Mexican border, primarily from Mexico.
TEXT OF THE BILL AS SUBMITTED: Current immigration laws as pertaining to illegal immigration into the United States of America shall be amended as follows:

1. The southern border of the United States of America shall immediately be secured. That does not mean a 6000 unarmed NG window dressing, but a minimum of 25,000 armed NG troops at the border to protect against unwanted intruders until such time as fences and technology can replace them, along with the doubling of Border Patrol guards. This section would recognize that this is an immediate national security issue and take effective steps immediately to deal with it.

2. Begin a gradual arrest and deportation program of all illegals currently in the United States. Use FBI and ICE computers linked to computers in the Social Security Dept. to check the citizenship or visa status off all employees in certain industries known for hiring illegals and identify any violations found. (If those computers can process every phone call made in the US and find patterns of possible terrorist activity, doing this should be a lead pipe cinch.) Follow up by visiting those companies found in violation and arresting identified violators.

3. Make unauthorized immigration a minor felony punishable by deportation. DEPORTATION shall consist of transportation to the border where they will be escorted back to the other side of the fence. The Mexican government shall have been notified that their guests have been returned and require transportation to their homes. There is no reason for US taxpayers to be responsible for the costs of returning illegals any further than their point of illegal entry into the United States. Further transportation shall be the responsibility of the country they illegally entered from.

4. Make it known that any employer found to be employing illegals will be fined $50,000 per occurrence after one warning, and enforce it. An "occurrence" is defined as a single violation after the employer has once been warned. Multiple violations will result in multiple fines for each illegal found to be in employ.

5. Require local police and law enforcement officers to check for citizenship or temporary worker status anytime they encounter Hispanics with a language problem or loitering on street corners as "day-laborers". Affiliation with any street gang shall be considered a crime. Arrest all gang members and deport those found in violation of immigration laws. Return all illegals now residing in our prisons with less than 20 year sentences to their border point of entry. Advise the "Mexican Federales" of additional prisoners for their jails who need transportation. This would reduce our prison population by 50%.

6. Create a guest worker program with tamper proof controls. Guest workers to be issued a tamper proof guest worker card which could not be transferred or copied. The guest worker will have to be sponsored by an employer before the card is issued BUT - the program must start in Mexico. The guest worker office for applicants MUST be in Mexico and not in the United States. Illegals wanting to work in the US would have to go back to Mexico to apply for the program or risk deportation. Once caught and deported, illegals without valid guest worker cards would become ineligible for the guest worker program and reentry into the United States. The card shall expire in 5 years and the worker must return to Mexico to renew it, assuming a set quota of guest workers has not been reached. (Needless to say, it should never be increased without a change in the law and approved by the full Congress.) The applications could be processed and verified rapidly and the worker could then return to the US and to his job. If he terminates or is terminated from that job, his worker privilege is cancelled and he is asked to leave or be deported unless he has a new sponsor and job. Regular employer/employee audits and reporting shall be mandatory.

7. Under no circumstances should the Guest Worker Program lead to citizenship in any way. That should remain a different path through normal immigration procedures. Allowing foreign citizens to work in the United States must be considered a temporary privilege and revocable at any time. Guest workers shall consider themselves "guests" in our country and behave accordingly. They are entitled to none of our citizen's rights, however, people who hire and house them are required to treat them in a manner consistent with our laws.

8. As this legislation constitutes an agreement with, and to the benefit of the government of Mexico and it's people, Mexico is to be liable for all medical care and social service expenses granted to guest workers, they shall not be a burden on US taxpayers or society. No voting, and no demonstrating in the streets will be allowed under penalty of deportation.

9. As these measures become law, the need for publications of documents in Spanish will become unnecessary. No government money shall be spent on duplication of government documents or bilingual verbal services either by phone or in person. Guest workers are advised to learn English during their stay in our country. Government publications will be printed in English only.

10. Within a reasonable period of time, people living and working in the United States will be primarily US citizens with the exception of the authorized "guest workers". To help unite America, discourage racial tension and divide, and to consider and treat all Americans equal under the law as prescribed by the Constitution, Americans will be referred to as Americans. Not "Mexican-Americans", not "African-Americans", not "Japanese-Americans" or any other hyphenated Americans, just simply Americans. Government agencies and programs will cease to classify people by race for any reasons other than simple identification purposes.

And to counter that you link to the website of immigration lawyers. They are responsible for the mess we are in. They favor immigration  anarchy. They get  rich off this mess

I saw Robert Rector on TV. He wrote the Heritage Report. He was very sober and believable. He would demolish you in an instant and same for the rat bastard immigration lawyers you cite
